David Jenkins is clearly inspired by classic storytelling structure this season - it’s very Hero’s Journey and Ed is our hero. “Death of a mentor” is literally one of the steps in the journey. Izzy’s death wasn’t senseless, it’s a modern take on a very ancient way of storytelling
as a huge izzy lover I think his ending was perfection, my only gripe is that we didn’t have more time to see him be so free before his end - but I also recognize that with only an 8 ep order, sometimes they have to show and not tell, which they did extensively #ofmds2spoilers
