Nvidia, Amazon, Google will have to divest from Anthropic if Hegseth gets his way. This is simply attempted corporate murder. I could not possibly recommend investing in American AI to any investor; I could not possibly recommend starting an AI company in the United States.

"With great scientific and technological development," Wang writes, "also comes an illusion: it seems that the agent ultimately solving a difficult problem is not human; rather, science and technology become the ultimate power while man becomes their slave."

Anyone who has done this will have little respect for established expertise and possess supreme confidence that they have a supernal ability to quickly grasp the fundamental features of any complex system they come across.

I am special. My birth was a product of exquisitely unique historical circumstance. In my gestures and thoughts, feelings and looks, strengths and failings, for good and ill – the unyielding weave of history can be discerned. And the same is true of every human who's ever lived.

Technology is great and I am bullish most aspects. However. If you can't sit quietly alone with your thoughts and no screens/stimulation you are a lost soul. Without this your brain will never appropriately assimilate and process the information it takes in. You will remain stuck
Waiting will never be the same

The greatest White Pill is this - that we are the inheritors of humanities sum total of past perseverance, toil, innovation and aspiration. Every generation of farmers, scientists, statesmen and soldiers, their life's work and sacrifice, are right here alongside us today, pushing back the darkness of night and filling the unthinking, unfeeling raw universe with the indomitable Animus of the human spirit. Onwards we rush, like a cavalry charge of historical forces breaking the thorned phalanx of entropy - they did it all for you, the current torch bearer, to flourish, to paint, to create, and one day transcend the limitations of mind, body, and flesh to become one with the Cosmos - all there ever was, and all there ever will be. There is an unbroken chain of being from the first primordial cells to us, that over aeons have climbed the energy gradient of complexity to bring conscious life to the galaxy. Who are we to deny this fate of fates, our manifest destiny of mind over matter? History has it's eyes on you. Do them proud and spend this inherited fortune wisely.

The reason why ppl are reacting so negatively to the Harvard people clinging to their credentials w/ their teeth is in large part the hypocrisy of it all. These top unis & their graduates have made it a habit to pretend they are anti elitist. But their very existence is an elitist project. It’s ok to be elitist, elitism will always exist and it’s healthy in moderate doses, but be open about it. So when this facade of promoting equality cracks and ppl show just how elitist they are, it makes those seeing it go crazy. I’d much much rather prefer open elitism than insidious elitism. Insidious elitism breeds corruption and leads to loss of accountability. I want the elites to openly be elitist so I can hold the accountable. Not this weird pseudo egalitarian nonsense.

the west has a pathological fear of being wrong, looking stupid. it's why there is a worshipping of the expert - if you listen to an "expert" and it turns out to be wrong, well, at least you didn't look stupid

And so art wasn't a contextless creation for a gallery, separated from society and boxed off as this thing called "Art". It was simply the expression of religious reverence, of civic pride, of humour, of delight, of beauty, of memory — and every street was filled with such art.
