FATHER SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR RAPING 13-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER

A 41-year-old HIV-positive man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his 13-year-old biological daughter and attempting to murder her by knowingly exposing her to HIV during unprotected sexual intercourse.
The Vredenburg Regional Court convicted him on two counts of rape and one count of attempted murder following a plea and sentence agreement.
He received:
Life imprisonment for the first rape.
35 years’ imprisonment for the second rape.
25 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder.
The sentences will run concurrently.
The court heard that on 23 May 2025, the man drove his daughter to a secluded beach area in Paternoster, ostensibly to take her to her mother’s home. Instead, he raped her.
He admitted knowing that he was HIV-positive and that he had not used a condom. He also admitted that he had the intention required for attempted murder because he knowingly exposed his daughter to the risk of HIV infection.
The court declared him unfit to possess a firearm and to work with children. His name will also be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
Western Cape Director of Public Prosecutions Adv. Adrian Mopp welcomed the sentence, describing the case as a serious example of gender-based violence and the abuse of parental trust.
The NPA says it remains committed to prosecuting perpetrators of sexual violence, particularly those who target children and abuse positions of trust.

Ciara Mageean 1992 - 2026 🕊️
We are devastated to report that Ciara Mageean has died at the age of 34.
Last summer Mageean, who represented Ireland at two Olympics and stood on the podium at multiple major championships, revealed that she had cancer.
Her biggest victory came at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, where she secured the gold medal for Ireland in the 1500m.
A statement on her social media said: "At 6.30am this morning, Ciara lost her battle with cancer surrounded by her loved ones.
"A beloved daughter, sister, wife, friend and inspiration to so many, she will be deeply missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam."
