Looking forward to seeing which of the two men writing their compliance handbook is on the paylist.

Anthropic's S1 reveals that the company considers copyright law a massive risk.
It says: "If we cannot rely on the fair use doctrine to access copyrighted work for training our models, we may be required to pay significant fees to obtain a license to such training data or our ability to further develop our models [...] and distribute models trained on such data at issue could be adversely affected."
Adverse rulings "could require us to retrain affected models from scratch at substantial cost."
It notes that the copyright questions around AI training have not been resolved in the US, and that other countries don't even have 'fair use'.
There is hope yet.
China’s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend.
By contrast, the scrappy ‘Niu Lai’ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago.

There’s a good slug of Nolan’s Tenet to this - a generation faced with the dark end they’ve created just turning around to try and eat their own children’s future. That the kids can *see* it and absolutely hate these rich evil fucks for what they take gives me a little hope.🥹
Young people actively hate AI.
My two younger daughters are 19 and 18, both at universities - one in the UK the other in Italy. Through them, I happen to know quite a few kids their age.
And ALL OF THEM seem to universally hate AI.
To them it's "something old people invented that we now have to deal with... as if climate change wasnt enough"
AI is cringe. When they introduce me to their friends, they literally say "heyya, meet my dad, he's a software engineer but nonono, NOT IN AI, dont worry, hahah".
They hate it for flooding their social feeds with slop, ruining music, taking phone scams to the next level, also destroying careers & devaluing their hobbies - why become an architect, this skill is about to become worthless? Why learn a musical instrument if session musicians are already obsolete?
The outcome is interesting, though - they're spending less and less time on public social, meeting up IRL, moving their online lives into private group chats with actual verified friends. TikTok and Reels are increasingly cringe-something for old dudes.
Which, I guess, might be a net positive after all...
This is actually the big thing - AI guys assume game dev to be in the same category as they are “because computer” as a result of not realising that they’re actually in finance.

(Also, there seriously needs to be a discussion on how Games is seen by techbros as “like them” yet has a completely different culture)

it's really interesting to see the "you're gonna get left behind/you're the only one not using it" crowd immediately shift to "that's not real" in the replies of this tweet the moment they're provided with actual data instead of speculation

Digger is a political movie that condemns the idea that watching political movies is activism. You Can See Everything is a documentary that condemns the idea that documentaries can be trusted. Incredible month for movies.
The issue imo is that audiences view film adaptation as an almost mechanical translation process meant to supplant any need to interact with denser source material. They don’t even recognise that “accurate” adaptations are mountains of iteration sculpted into a distinct entity.💀
It’s been middle management meddling from people with the soul of a bank manager for all of history, but now with advances in technology, they have the opportunity to just smear diarrhoea over the whole thing and then beg you to clean it up.

Woke 2.0 was kind of a bust but I am really seeing a lot of promise in woke 3.0
Must be weird for Tim to be exposed to a few real people’s opinions for once now that there’s just the briefest gap in posts from Epstein class bots glazing him.

AI prompters demanding to be treated equal or superior to actual artists is right wing woke.
“I’ve put in 0 effort, but you have to call me an artist or I’ll call the HR.”
These dudes are demanding their art participation trophies for typing “grok draw spider-man”
This is the standard everywhere else in the world- America needs to catch up and put the final nail in the coffin of rights transfer being eaten in work for hire arrangements.
This shit sucks so much
