Punishment & isolation doesn’t teach the brain how to regulate. It doesn’t address the why behind the behaviour or teach skills to manage big emotions,or support long-term behavioural change. We need to stop focusing solely on the symptoms & start addressing the root causes.

The government has published guidance and this includes Children with medical conditions at school this includes hypermobility/Ehlers Danlos syndrome (EDS), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). All of this can be variable from one day to the next and at their worst extremely debilitating. Suggestion, @Helen_Whately. Rather than focusing on the cost of disabled people, why not focus on the systems failing them? NHS clinical negligence payments rose from £863m in 2010/11 to over £3bn in 2024/25, - 14 yrs of Conservative government Where was the accountability?🪡

Another reminder that child abusers like to hold positions of trust that give them access to, and authority over, children. A professional title is not a safeguard. Children’s safety must always come before an adult’s status or reputation. “A former schoolteacher and magician from Bexley who sexually abused a nine-year-old girl has been jailed for more than two years.” newsshopper.co.uk/news/26639…

🧵‼️1/2. Staff should refrain from communicating with her or offer her any warmth or empathy until she stops banging her head.” That was a care plan at TEWV’s West Lane. A child was left to harm herself and told it was “her choice.” This was punishment dressed up as care. #TEWV
