Following my previous Tweets (attached) and chat with @RAIL and others, I have put together a quick ‘Then & Now’ collection. Google street view gets the ‘Now’ locations near enough... Near the German Gym at Kings Cross (1 of 2)
Following earlier tweets from @RAIL and @pipdunn about Kings Cross in the bad old days, I’ve quickly taken photos of some of my slides taken in 1991 & 92: Batch 1 of 5 (1991)

The new waiting shelter on platform 1 at Lewes is coming along nicely, to match the one on platform 2. Not long before it opens, I guess @SouthernRailUK

Whilst waiting for my train at Lewes this morning, I couldn’t miss the opportunity of visiting the The Runaway café on platform 2. Freshly made bacon sandwich and a proper cup of tea made in a pot with leaf tea, not bags. A cheeky portion of homemade bread pudding to finish!

40 years! Where did that go? On 1st September 1986 I walked into Selhurst Apprentice Training School - my first day on the railway. Today I popped in to mark the occasion. It is now a driver training centre but the buildings are still there. No more lathes or milling machines!

This thread proves the point of how versatile the Southern Region 27-way control system was, and the fact that all scenarios were allowed for. @Captain_Deltic @railnigel (1/2)
1/. @tms1967 here’s the story of the newspaper train . It was around 1978ish when I was at Beckenham with South Eastern. We ran overnight newspaper trains, loco hauled vac braked with a single BSK usually for overnight pax to use.

For a number of years since the 1960s there were spare train wires for left and right doors unlock and all doors lock. These were eventually used on the secondary door locking test train unit 1620, then on prototype 1812 which ran in passenger service. (2/2)
