All plans for Saturday cancelled on news of a Nutcracker in Norfolk! After going missing for several hours and the rain pouring down it wasn't looking promising before its brief appearance again late afternoon. 💥😎

Good Aurora display over #Shetland from the southbound @NLFerries last night. Seemed to be happening in all directions north with some nice vertical columns overhead.

A bit of a quiet day for me on #Shetland today. I did find a Shetland rarity at Weisdale Voe, unfortunately it was a Kingfisher! 😄 The other highlight was the Bluethroat at Boddam.

Weds on #Shetland - a lovely sunny calm day! Started with an Otter at Weisdale, YBW at Kergord, Barred Warbler and RT Diver at Vidlin, then south with a Minke Whale in Mousa Sound, RB Shrike and American Wigeon at Spiggie, then a Western Bonelli's Warbler at Skelberry. Top day!

Today on Shetland was much brighter and calmer. It looked like another quiet day on the birding front, but an Arctic Warbler at Fladdabister was a nice highlight. It showed relatively well a couple of times.

It's been tough going so far on Shetland this week. Still a few highlights between the wind and rain - Sibe Stonechat, GG Shrike, BB Sandpiper and RB Flycatcher.

Got lucky with the Sykes's Warbler in Aberdeen on Thursday - due on the ferry to Shetland later that day so left six hours early. It showed very well early morning.

Osprey at Ogston Reservoir on Sunday. Spent most of the day sat in trees, but there was a brief flypast later @Derbyshirebirds

Good timing to be in London at Christies on Tuesday to see the guitars used to craft some of the greatest songs of all time. Anyone lend me £100k for the Rickenbacker? 🎸💵 #JohnnyMarr #MarrsGuitars

Despite being only 30 mins away, Avenue Washlands NR in Derbyshire was a new site for me. Even better, the Red-backed Shrike had stuck around until Saturday and was showing really well @Derbyshirebirds

Red-necked Phalarope in Sheffield this morning - another great Redmires find by Richard Hill. Dodging the dogs and swimmers, it typically showed really well at times @shefbirdstudy @SYorkshireBirds

I didn't expect to be on a boat on Monday evening, but that's how birding works out sometimes. Luckily the Sooty Tern stuck around for the rest of the day. Distant views from the dunes but better from the boat later on. Thanks for organising that @WayneGlossop2 and @BirdGuides ✅

After seeing Britains first Western Reef Heron very briefly late Sat evening, it was worth a few freezing hours in the car to get superb views in Caernarfon harbour next morning. 🥶😎

Today I twitched something different, but I didn't need my bin-oculars (geddit?). One of the last David Mellor model 601 yellow bins, designed in 1957, still in use in Sheffield at Burton Lane. Bonus green bin at the back making it a 2-bin-tick day 😎

A good morning finding most of the Padley Gorge specialities with @shefbirdstudy on Saturday. Pied Flycatchers showing really well near the ice cream van, A couple of Cuckoos getting chased by pipits, a few Tree Pipits and an elusive treetop Redstart.
