Incredible coincidence that @nigel_Farage watched the England game in the same spot in the same pub, with the same flags up, wearing the same top and standing next to someone wearing an identical top as he did during the Euros in 2024.

Fuel duty has been frozen at 57.95p a litre since 2011; they'll subsidise drivers for eternity, but not public transport

Meanwhile I've just spent £197 on a return train ticket from Huntingdon to Dundee.
No one wants to spend their Easter weekend stuck in traffic. So we're lifting more than a thousand miles of roadworks over Easter. And to save you money, we've frozen fuel duty and delivered record funding to fix potholes. Drivers — I'm on your side.

This is the official Police response to whether children can play in the street. Motornormativity exists everywhere, in this case, prioritising the potential feelings of drivers over the independence of children. How utterly depressing.

So to recap… Bus fare cap ⬆️ 50% Rail fares ⬆️ 4.6% Rail cards ⬆️ by £5 Fuel duty… still frozen. Gov talks of delivering on the environment yet undermines itself by failing to adequately tax our most polluting forms of transport & support the most sustainable. #Budget2024

Analysis by Greener Journeys found that the fuel duty freeze has cost HM Treasury £50 billion in lost income, has led to 5% more traffic, 250 million fewer bus journeys, 75 million fewer rail journeys, an extra 5 million tonnes of CO₂ and an extra 15,000 tonnes of NOx emissions.
Starmer to @JackElsom: "I know how important [fuel duty] is for you and your readers." Sounds to me like they're preparing to freeze it (again).

Had a good weekend at @greenbelt festival, as always. Whilst there I participated in a panel about sustainable transport, and everyone received a free mini-comic about cycle campaigning. The comic is now freely available - printable version here: davewalker.com/how-to-be-a-c…

The F1 Dutch Grand Prix weekend starts today in the town of Zandvoort. And despite its relatively remote location on the sea (with strong winds and rain in the forecast), upwards of 45,000 fans ride their bikes there each day. The pop-up cycle parking outside of the race track.

Obligatory Kinderdijk photo. Third time bike packing round NL, tyres (and rider sadly) getting more and more chunky each time as I descend further into off road riding.
