these people are scared that their kid might have a sense of independence at school, they live in terror of their kid going by a nickname they don't approve of, they piss themselves in horror at the idea that their children might develop a sense of self different from them

Most road widenings happened with 0 public input. Trucks just showed up in the middle of the night and bulldozed sidewalks to add a few traffic lanes because traffic engineers said so. Now, when we want those lanes converted back to sidewalks or bike lanes, it requires 15 public meetings, coordination between 5 different city agencies, and special one-on-one meetings with NIMBYs. And it still might not happen because that NIMBY knows people in city hall.

Union Pacific is trying to merge/buy Norfolk Southern, if it happens it will be the biggest railroad merger in history, and will make UP the first to have a true Transcontinental railroad from East to West Coasts. I talk about all of the details here: youtu.be/zRLsG6oA2HE
