Thank you @ConsDiaries for allowing me to tweet this week from @ARAConsTraining Chemistry Week. I hope you've all enjoyed seeing what we've been up to. A special thank you to @tswilc for helping me tweet this week! For more info on the training scheme: archives.org.uk/training/cer…

Good morning from day 3 of Chemistry Week! Today we'll be learning all about polymers, adhesives and acidity in paper. Here's Tracy from @britishlibrary and Jane from @BerksArchives concentrating in the lab. @ARAConsTraining #chemistryforconservators #paperconservation

Here's Julian from @NLWales heating up some Sodium Bromide. What will remove it from the spatula once cooled? Using their learning of chemical bonding our student will figure it out. This afternoon we'll be using Teas charts to help with the solubility of inks! @ARAConsTraining

Burn baby burn! This morning @TaniaPassafiume and I used a blow torch and a copper wire to perform the Beilsteim Test on some photo enclosures. The green flame means there's chlorine in the plastic and it shouldn't be used for collections materials. #ConservationDiaries

Finally got in to my computer! Now I'm filling out the mould remediation survey being circulated by @FlemingCollege conservation student Samuel Johnson. You should do it too! goo.gl/forms/nx2IKisjgeQDOpo… #ConservationDiaries

Some of our glass plate negative repair stands were used at the @agotoronto Conservation of Photographs on Glass workshop. Today I'm setting them back up and thinking about what tweaks I'd like to make to our method. Maybe a different epoxy? #ConservationDiaries

One of the best things about being back at work is being in @LibraryArchives Preservation Centre. I work on top of a huge concrete block in glass aircraft hanger. That's the photo lab right at the top. We share an open plan space with prints & drawings. #ConservationDiaries
