tonight, i'm choosing self-love
we laughed at the time about his "whatever makes sense" comment when getting donuts but what we didn't realize was that he just takes that attitude towards every aspect of his life. his kids, fireworks safety etc.
"There were like 35 Secret Service agents and 25 staffers who knew what I dipshit I was" -- JD Vance, campaigning in North Carolina, tells a deeply weird story about how he was playing with fireworks with his kids a few days ago and let one explode in his hand, burning his fingers 😳

i don't even know what cancelled means anymore man
“Every possible -ism and -phobia and moral impropriety has been ascribed to me since I began my largely pro-bono career as an internet girl,” writes Ivy Wolk. In a new essay, the 22-year-old comedian and actor reflects on the way her dark thoughts about her own self-image are interpreted as “soulless edgelord fare” — and all the times she’s been canceled since she started posting her comedy online as a teen, including when children once decided en masse that she was a “whorish foil” to a famous friend of hers. “As much as I wish for anonymity or a slate wipe sometimes, I am grateful for the perspective I’ve aggregated and the ways in which I have been challenged never to abandon my beliefs and my unbounding love for other people,” Wolk writes. “It cannot harden me, it cannot isolate me from community, and it cannot remove me from public life.” Read the full essay: nymag.visitlink.me/yANP5M

like i'm fine with understanding and forgiving and moving past some of the dumb stuff we say when we're young but how bad was the backlash if you're getting a bunch of movie deals and published in the new yorker at 22

certain people take it very personally when one or two peptalks doesn’t immediately cure you of your lifelong illness

i think you guys have a lot of internalized ableism and compulsive compliance issues that you need to get over and stop thinking that other people's value correlates to how good they play the entirely-human-constructed game of socialization.
this is probably gonna piss someone off but a friend just reblogged this on tumblr and like. standing ovation, encore, etc, esp that last paragraph in the second image

Replying to @twirlingjesters
I still submit that none of the people who say that shit would dream of telling a paraplegic that they need to learn to go up stairs quickly and "not expect society to change things to make you happier".

I’ve asked this before but is there any historical event that is like the Opposite of 9/11. Like something so good that happened that it changed the world forever

it is laughably unrealistic to believe that every single autistic individual is going to have the ability to mask at a level that gives them the same social accessibility as a neurotypical person. it is just a grave misunderstanding of how these social dynamics work

this is not a new phenomenon. people have been saying "the social consequences of your disability are YOUR fault for not being accommodating enough to everyone else" for ages. it's just rough to see that it's still going on decades past when these first discussions were had.

the end result of this is that socialization, something that is already difficult for autistic people, becomes far more complicated and opaque than it would be otherwise. deference isn't given to those who are at a disadvantage, it's given to everyone else.

It's good to know that people are realizing the narrative isn't as good as they say it is. The only thing that's even remotely salvageable is Deltritus.
