In 1968, R. C. Majumdar warned against turning Indian history into an instrument of political ideology. His message was stark: a nation cannot build its future on historical falsehood. Here is his FULL, UNEDITED SPEECH. youtu.be/t92ejqqywbY

You can't strip the religious Bhakti out of Tyagaraja and still demand the brilliance of his Kritis. Wrote on why secular posturing can't erase the sacred foundation of Indian classical music swarajyamag.com/culture/why-…

The very basis of communism is the elimination of income inequality. Asking for the wealth of others to be snatched while keeping one’s own is the problem.
Being born into affluence, possessing a luxury automobile, or belonging to a political dynasty does not inherently invalidate one’s commitment to communism. #Communism is an ideological conviction, not a certificate of poverty. I often tell my students that, philosophically speaking, a baby’s first cry may be interpreted as the most rudimentary assertion of a fundamental right, the instinctive demand for nourishment, care, and survival. Although an infant is incapable of comprehending political ideology, that primordial cry symbolises an innate human need and the instinct to secure what is essential for existence. Therefore, before branding @neha_aisa Neha Bora a fraud merely because she or her family may possess an expensive car, we must learn to distinguish ideological commitment from personal affluence. Scrutinise her arguments, interrogate her actions, and expose any demonstrable contradictions in her principles. But condemning someone’s political convictions solely on the basis of their family’s wealth is intellectual superficiality, not a substantive critique of ideology.

62% of Indian resident doctors work more than 36 hours at a stretch. 86% report severe sleep deprivation. 97% earn less than an entry level civil servant. 76% are assaulted while on duty. We can call ourselves civilised only when we learn to treat our doctors like they treat us.

Dilip Mandal says he invented the fictional character Fatima Sheikh. Meanwhile Tamil films are using her imagery to give legitimacy to her realness. There is no way that 90s rural TN had awareness about Marathi Fatima (fictional or not), but cinema is a make-believe world.
The advantage of films is that not everything needs to be spelt out, like in books. The visual medium offers more space for the attentive one to spot subtle nuances. For e.g., see this frame from Dorothy that sheds light on the protagonist Karthik's background. Did you note this?

Kejriwal to chameleon took a short while. #Dipke isn’t the one to waste time.
Abhijeet Dipke on October 12: "maine koi peace bond sign nahi kiya hai, 1000 baar jail jaane ko taiyar hu" Abhijeet Dipke today: "ha maine peace bond sign kiya hai, mana to nahi kar sakta na, mujhe jail se bhi to bahar aana hai" Dipke has outdone even his maalik Kejriwal when it comes to U turns! 😂🤣

And they have arrived in India ! Goosebumps ! The Amur falcons are back in Manipur, 11 days after leaving northeastern China. After all those moving dots we watched across continents and oceans, how lovely to know they are here again. And any guesses why they stop here? Yes, the termites ! As the monsoon retreats, winged termites emerge in enormous swarms across Manipur, Nagaland and neighbouring areas. Our tiny travellers arrive just in time for this feast, rich in the fat and protein that will help carry them to Africa. And what appetites ! Researchers estimate that a million Amur falcons can eat around two billion termites in just over a fortnight. Imagine that: an ocean crossing made possible by insects so small we barely notice them. For the next two to three weeks, they are expected to feast and rest in Tamenglong, watched over by communities who eagerly await their return. Then comes the leap that will have us holding our breath again: nearly 6,000 km to Somalia in around six days without landing, including some 3,000 km over the Arabian Sea. Come along. Our tiny superbirds have so much more to show us as Dr Suresh and team @WII track their incredible journey. @byadavbjp @moefcc @sureshwii @wii_india #AmurFalcons #BirdMigration #AmurFalconMigration
India, watch out for the incredible Amur falcons' journey again ! Remember Apapang, Alang and Ahu, the tiny falcons whose extraordinary journeys have kept so many of us watching and wondering ! Now they are back on our maps. Dr Suresh of the Wildlife Institute of India tells me both are still transmitting, while Ahu stopped transmitting last year. Apapang and Alang stayed in northeastern China longer than he had expected this season. Apapang and Alang have now begun their southward journey and are expected to reach Manipur around 20 October. For the past one year, we have been following these remarkable travellers across countries, continents and oceans. Somehow, seeing a familiar name transmitting again feels like hearing from an old friend. Come along ! Lets get ready to be stunned by this miracle of nature once again #AmurFalcons @sureshwii #BirdMigration @wii_india #AmurFalconMigration
