To the graduating designers, congratulations! Your creativity is an asset, and I hope you leave this programme ready to take your ideas further, build your brands and seize the opportunities ahead. For me, this is what investing in young people should look like: 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.

This morning, we had a High-Level Panel on Shaping Uganda's Digital Future: Building an Inclusive, Trustworthy & Sustainable Internet.
This panel set the momentum for the conversations that happened throughout the day. Here are some key insights that came from it;
Dr. Ambrose Ruyooka, AG. Commissioner IT/Head Department of Research and Development mentioned the work the @GovUganda is doing around integrating AI into the national strategy while also following global governance standards.
Jerome Okot, COO at @milimatechug spoke on cybersecurity and how it affects us all. He shared different phishing case studies, and encouraged all creators to build with cybersecurity for all users in mind.
Ritah Ngenzi, ED at @tiv_hub highlighted the missing middle encouraging Government to recognize innovators as strategic partners in solving national challenges and accelerating digital transformation.
By creating stronger partnerships with the innovation ecosystem, government can unlock homegrown solutions that improve public service delivery, create jobs, and drive inclusive economic growth.
Dr. Ernest Tumwebeze, ED @SunbirdAI challenged participants to rethink Uganda's role in the global AI ecosystem and become creators of solutions tailored to local realities.
Dr. Tumwebaze highlighted that trustworthy AI begins with trustworthy data. AI systems are only as good as the data they are trained on, making data quality, representation, transparency, and accountability critical to building systems that serve all Ugandans fairly.
Hon. Idd Basajja, Vice Chairperson, ICT Committee, @Parliament_Ug emphasized the role of parliament to enact laws that protect Ugandans in regards to their digital transformation and future. He also cautioned participants to be responsible internet users as the law penalizes everyone that misuses the internet. He then invited recommendations and feedback from the public on internet service delivery.
