Last night at State House Entebbe, I met European Ambassadors and investors. I was pleased to learn that European investors are increasingly investing in Uganda, particularly in hydropower and other infrastructure projects. I have always told our European friends that Africa is a huge market because of its rapidly growing population. This is an opportunity we must all take advantage of. On tax incentives, I explained that our 10 year tax holiday for eligible manufacturers is meant to encourage investment, production and job creation. As our people produce and earn more, Government also collects revenue through consumer spending and income taxes.

PHOTOS: Uganda’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Monica Musenero, and Swedish Ambassador to Uganda Anna-Maria Olsson have presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Karuma-Tororo transmission line project in Ntinda, Kampala. The project, expected to be completed within 36 months, will cost €342,592,806.25 and will be financed through a loan from Standard Chartered Bank, backed by the Swedish Export Credit Agency. According to Kwame Ejalu, Chairperson of the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) Board, the 400kV transmission line will help maximise the use of the Karuma Hydropower Station’s generation capacity and strengthen the national electricity grid. The project is also expected to improve electricity supply to industrial and urban growth centres in eastern Uganda, supporting economic activity and rising demand for power. #MonitorUpdates 📸: @GeofreyMutumba2

𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧 €𝟑𝟒𝟐.𝟔 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐚–𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐫𝐨 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 Government has broken ground on the €342.6 million Karuma–Tororo 400kV transmission project, which will strengthen electricity supply to Eastern Uganda and Greater Kampala, support industrialisation and expand regional power trade. The project involves approximately 347 kilometres of transmission lines traversing 15 districts, alongside associated substations. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Hon. Dr Monica Musenero said the project will provide critical infrastructure to support industries, create jobs and accelerate Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. She urged contractors and engineers to commence work promptly, deliver quality infrastructure within the planned 36 months and ensure that the project benefits Ugandans. She also called on local suppliers to participate and communities along the route to protect the infrastructure against vandalism. UETCL Board Chairperson Kwame Ejalu said the project complements Uganda’s investments in electricity generation, including the 600MW Karuma Hydropower Plant, by strengthening the transmission network needed to deliver reliable power to homes, businesses and industries. He emphasised accountability, value for money, quality workmanship and fair compensation for project-affected persons. The Ambassador of Sweden to Uganda, H.E. Anna Maria, reaffirmed Sweden’s commitment to Uganda’s energy development, highlighting the longstanding partnership involving Swedish companies, financing institutions and the Government of Uganda. She noted that the project would strengthen electricity transmission, support investment and create opportunities for regional power trade. The project aligns with Government’s industrialisation agenda and long-term development plans, with reliable electricity expected to support business growth, employment creation and improved livelihoods.

A major milestone for Uganda's energy infrastructure. Today, stakeholders gathered for the groundbreaking of the Sweden-backed 400 kV double circuit Karuma-Tororo transmission line and associated substations and 132/133KV Ntinda substation. This project represents an important milestone for Uganda's electricity infrastructure and demonstrates the value of long-term partnerships that combine infrastructure expertise, financing solutions and strong collaboration between public and private actors. As Uganda continues to expand its electricity network, investments in transmission infrastructure are essential to ensuring that power reaches industries, businesses and communities where it can drive economic growth and job creation. Sweden is proud to contribute expertise and financing solutions that support these ambitions. 🇸🇪🤝🇺🇬 #EnergyInfrastructure #TeamSweden
