Given the rising costs of college education and the declining value of getting a university degree, we are going to see a massive change in the way 18-24 year olds get education and it’ll primarily be through fellowships where they get paid to go like the Thiel Fellowship but with a lower bar, and companies that will accept students as interns but for 1-4 years. The education system is going to flip on its head where universities will be reserved for the elite and traditional minded students while fellowship and company sponsored education will be the education experience for the masses, that will likely yield higher results and ultimately a higher net worth for their users. The YC for education will pop up. Ofc many apply to YC instead of going to college which is probably the best education one can have, but this will be a generational thing in the next 10 years as traditional education is unaffordable and not valuable. And yes I think this holds true for medicine, law, and other specialized degrees. Why can’t you become a doctor working in a hospital for X years instead of going to medical school? Practical education is the future of education. Practice beats theory.
