Brings back memories of the convoy, which was an attempt to take the government down. These white supremists will be more emboldened, not a good scenario.

“A leader that drags her province through the mud and puts her self-interest and dysfunctional political party first is no leader.”
“You gave Albertans something else they didn’t bargain for: a shoddy, two-faced, MAGA-inspired government.”
In an opinion piece published yesterday in The Tyee, award-winning journalist and Tyee contributing editor Andrew Nikiforuk calls on Alberta Premier Danielle Smith to resign.
Resign, Danielle Smith. Resign
"You gambled the nation and divided a province for your own shameless aims. Enough."

Here is some reading material. Perhaps you weren’t around when we had a party with the same platform the Conservatives have.
People have forgotten, or never knew, what BC looked like the last time a government ran on the platform the Conservatives are running on now. Exact same scenario, Conservative take over from NDP. I think it’s worth remembering before you vote.
In fall 2001, BC gave Gordon Campbell a massive majority, and he used it to dismantle much of what the NDP had built. This week the Conservatives’ own campaign material pointed to Campbell’s 2001 approach as their model. So here’s what that looked like.
To pay for a 25% income tax cut, the 2002 budget cut every ministry outside health and education by an average of 25% over three years.
HEALTH CARE
• Bill 29 tore up the Hospital Employees’ Union contract, leading to the layoff of more than 8,000 health workers, mostly women. Many jobs were contracted out at lower wages. The Supreme Court of Canada later struck down key parts of the law as unconstitutional.
• MSP premiums went up 50% overnight.
• Hospitals were closed or downsized across the province, including Summerland and St. Mary’s in New Westminster.
HOUSING
• The new Residential Tenancy Act dropped the requirement for landlords to justify rent increases with actual costs, and later locked in automatic yearly increases of inflation plus 2%.
CHILDREN, YOUTH & EDUCATION
• Scrapped the NDP’s plan for universal $14/day child care, then cancelled the $7/day before- and after-school care program.
• Stripped class size and composition limits from teachers’ contracts. The BCTF says more than 3,500 teaching positions were lost. The courts later ruled that law unconstitutional too.
• Ended the tuition freeze. Tuition jumped 40% one year and 35% the next, and roughly doubled within a few years. Student grants were eliminated entirely by 2004.
• Created a $6/hr “training wage” for new workers’ first 500 hours and froze the minimum wage at $8 for nearly a decade.
WOMEN
• Cut 100% of core funding for all 37 women’s centres in BC.
• Ended the pay equity program.
• Eliminated the Ministry of Women’s Equality.
VULNERABLE PEOPLE
• Took away welfare earnings exemptions, so most people on assistance lost every dollar they earned. They also cut family shelter allowances and imposed a two-years-in-five time limit.
• Cut legal aid funding by about 40%, gutting family law help that women relied on.
• Abolished the BC Human Rights Commission.
That’s just a taste of last time.
I’m deeply disappointed about this result. I’m worried about what it could mean for health care, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ people, education and Indigenous rights…I don’t believe every person who voted Conservative is hateful or unintelligent. People vote for different reasons. But a win doesn’t make a policy harmless, and we shouldn’t pretend the campaign promises… or the rhetoric surrounding them… don’t matter. The Conservatives platform promises to repeal SOGI 123, an optional set of resources schools use to support students and address bullying related to sexual orientation and gender identity. It also promises to repeal DRIPA… B.C.’s framework for bringing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples into provincial law. Those choices put queer and trans students inclusion and reconciliation at risk. In 2024, Conservative candidate Marina Sapozhnikov used a racist slur to describe Indigenous people and made the baseless claim that 90% of Indigenous people use drugs. During this election, Conservative candidate Mike Hicks said First Nations needed to be “conquered.” Both incidents were condemned by Indigenous leaders. These words carry the weight of a violent colonial history, and political parties must be held accountable. On health care, the platform budgets $205 million a year at full cost for its promise to protect universal care and improve access. It also promises publicly funded treatment through another qualified provider if surgical wait benchmarks are exceeded. That raises real questions about how expanded care outside the public system could affect public staffing and access. What’s been hardest to watch is how hatred, scapegoating and misinformation have been pushed into the mainstream as “common sense.” Far right talking points have made it easier to treat our neighbours rights, identities and histories as threats. That should alarm all of us…I’m not saying every Conservative voter is stupid… you can’t judge one person’s intelligence by their vote, and research can’t explain why any one person voted the way they did. But studies do show a pattern, on average, between lower cognitive test scores and stronger socially conservative and authoritarian views. In a climate full of fearmongering and misinformation, critical thinking matters more than ever… question the talking points and check the facts…
And to the Conservative supporters all over social media right now, gloating, mocking people and telling them to “cry harder”… your side won. If your first instinct in victory is to become even crueler, that says far more about your character than it does about anyone you defeated…People are genuinely afraid for their health care, their schools, their rights, their families and their safety. Treating that fear like entertainment isn’t strength, patriotism or political debate. It’s a complete failure of basic human decency…You got the result you wanted. Try showing some humility and humanity. Do better. Be better. An election victory is a mandate to govern… it is not permission to strip people of their dignity, erase their history or treat their rights as negotiable…Human rights are not privileges handed out by whichever political party happens to hold power. Indigenous history doesn’t disappear because the truth makes people uncomfortable. Queer and trans kids don’t become less deserving of safety because adults have turned their existence into a culture war. Women’s equality is not settled enough to be taken for granted, and health care and education should never be sacrificed to satisfy an ideology…To everyone who feels frightened, angry or abandoned by this result… you are not alone. There are still people who see you, stand beside you and will fight like hell for you. I refuse to accept cruelty as “common sense.” I refuse to let misinformation become truth simply because it was repeated loudly enough. You won an election. You did not win the right to decide whose humanity matters.

BC voters really elected a Conservative government?!
Seriously?!
You've seen what Doug Ford has done in Ontario. What Danielle Smith has done to Alberta.
And then said, I want that for my province?!
🤦🏼♀️🙄
The most junior person on their Alberta Health team could have googled this:

cihi.ca/en/health-system-con…
They're not even trying anymore!!!
Plus: we had a "prov operation center" before Smith blew it up with refocusing... last 3yrs HCWs begging for it!

Want to see a criminal mob boss trying to keep her territory?
Smith confirmed she will continue to use taxpayer dollars to appeal the shutdown of the original separatist question...
But regardless of the outcome, she won't ask another separation question.
She wants the ruling to ensure First Nations don't have to be consulted.

Not a single one of the ten referendum questions were the result of any citizen initiative. And she knows that. That she repeats her lies knowing that we all know she's lying and her lies are so easily disproved and that she does it so smoothly is increasingly disturbing.
