My Nehru — There are people we admire & there are people who become a part of how we see the world. Nehru is the second kind for me. I did not inherit him. I found him slowly, the way one finds oneself. Through his words, his silences, his contradictions, his loneliness. & somewhere along the way, I realised I was not just reading about a man. I was learning how to be one. He showed me that it is possible to stand in the middle of a storm and still speak softly. That anger can be turned into purpose instead of hatred. That a person can be broken by grief, by betrayal, by years of separation from those he loved, and still wake up each morning believing in people. What moves me most is not his greatness. It is his humanity. A man who admitted his doubts. Who wrote of feeling like a stranger everywhere, belonging fully neither to the East nor the West. Who carried the dreams of millions and still felt lonely at night. I have known that loneliness. & in his, I found company. He taught me that faith does not always need a temple. Sometimes it lives in the belief that people are better than their worst moments. That a divided land can learn to hold hands. That the future is something we owe to those not yet born. There are days when the world feels harsh & small, when kindness looks foolish and reason feels outnumbered. On those days, I return to him. Not for answers, but for the quiet reassurance that someone once walked this path before me, and did not give up. Heroes are not those who never fall. They are those whose light keeps reaching us long after they are gone. Panditji, you are that light for me. You will remain a part of who I am, and of who I am still trying to become. My Nehru.
