Yesterday, I was proud to host an event in Parliament as Chair of the APPG on PCOS to mark the change of name from PCOS to PMOS.
This is far more than a name change. Polymetabolic Ovary Syndrome (PMOS) better reflects the complexity of the condition and is an important step towards improving awareness, diagnosis and care for the millions affected.
Thank you to @veritypmos and to representatives from universities, the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, NICE, the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Nursing for joining us.
Together, we can drive the change needed to improve outcomes for everyone living with PMOS 💜

The name change from PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) to PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome) addresses a huge misconception about how the ovaries are affected (it’s not ovarian cysts that we are looking at). It also draws much-needed attention to the metabolic and other hormonal dimensions of the condition.
The new NICE draft guidelines on PMOS are proposing an annual PMOS health check - a welcome opportunity to address and monitor various aspects of the condition as a life course approach from puberty to menopause.
