It cannot be emphasised enough that this scheme means the taxpayer pays to indulge these charities. It does NOT mean these charities/sponsors cover the costs themselves. Sponsors are only expected to put up funds for six months, at an expected cost of between £9,000 and £15,000 per family.
That's not going to last very long, which is fine according to the scheme, because the refugees get immediate access to the labour market and welfare benefits. And which one of these two options do we think they're most likely to access first, considering their predicted level of English, work skills, experience etc?

Here's an astonishing stat: Just over half of all visas granted to care workers in 2023 were sponsored by employers that have since lost their licences, mostly due to fraud or abuse. That’s ~200,000 people once you include dependants. None of them have had their visas revoked.
