Young fans nowadays don’t know their fandom and fanfiction history, and that is:
It started when middle aged women in the 1960s who were fans of the Kirk / Spock pairing from Star Trek started writing fanfiction, PRINTING THEM, and then distributing and sharing them FOR FREE among their fellow fans.
THAT is how fandom was born: through building communities brick by brick like this.
This practice is going back to that time, albeit now in pdf / epub form instead of printed paper.
And I think that’s BEAUTIFUL. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn’t truly understand the core of what fandom is built upon.

I know this sounds so silly but this is why you need to vote because internet infrastructure and protection is going to continue to decline and destroy communities like AO3 if we don’t reign in tech oligarchs.

i would bet that the ao3 server maintenance is due to an ai-assisted hack and it's literally just the first in a long, long series of horrible, disabling attacks on load-bearing websites. today it's ao3 tomorrow it's your bank on monday it's the data logs of bioweaponry companies

Honestly this puts into perspective how much brain energy is required to perform well - you’re catering to fans, remembering lyrics and choreo, trying to calculate what to do when things go wrong, etc
In case some fans don’t realize why S.Coups’ immediate solution is to run back to the main stage:
We all know through science that sound travels through space, and they were performing at a HUGE venue. The farther away they are from the main speakers, the more delayed the sound reaches their ears.
The purpose of the earpieces is to make sure they’re on beat with the main speakers—which is also the sound that is being broadcasted on livestream. When their earpieces malfunctioned, they were MUCH farther out from the main stage, and they couldn’t sing nor perform on beat anymore because what they’re hearing is out of sync from the main speakers.
That’s why S.Coups’ immediate remedy is to herd them back to the main stage so they can at least HEAR the beat better when they’re close to the main speakers as possible.

The very first fic I published in FFN went up to 75k+ words until the file I was working on for the next chapter got corrupted (yes I am from the ancient times, this was in 2006) and I didn’t have the heart nor energy to rewrite everything from scratch anymore.

that time during holiday fm when seventeen’s in-ears malfunctioned, so cheol guided them back to the main stage, and they just took their in-ears off and continued performing like nothing happened is just PEAK PROFESSIONALISM 🙇🏻♀️
