He acquired Stelco to prevent Canadian steel and workers from competing with Cleveland-Cliffs. How many US acquisitions of Canadian companies do you think are for this reason? This is why we must strengthen the Investment Canada Act and increase usage and review.
Cleveland-Cliffs CEO: I bought Stelco because I could not afford anymore having Stelco flooding the market here in the United States to the detriment of my own company. David Cochrane: Am I understanding you correctly there? It was a defensive acquisition?

Charles Mackay wrote about people falling for irrational, unscientific hype. You know, like believing that a global network of thousands of independent satellites, thermometers and ocean buoys are all lying to you because you don't like the data.
CO2 is very real. Beer tastes awful without it. It is invisible and odorless and your delusions about it causing bad weather are just another superstition. You are victim of propaganda.

Idk who needs to hear this, but it’s the Ukrainian people who decide who their president is under their Constitution, not an American oligarch.

Like lemmings running off a cliff. We must run faster
Imagine going back to October 2024 and telling Canadian oil & gas execs: - Trudeau, Guilbeault Eby gone - Strait of Hormuz war, WTI > $100 - Liberals adopted energy superpower agenda - New west coast oil pipeline designated in national interest - TMX full - Keystone XL/ Southbow Bridger moving forward - Conservative BC government - LNG Canada Phase 2 FID’d - Natural gas gigascale data centres FID’d - Emissions cap scrapped, IAA removed from almost all O&G projects - 100% immediate and permanent expensing for capital investments

Putin’s supposedly inevitable victory is looking rather deceased. The Institute for the Study of War says Russia is extraordinarily unlikely to prevail unless Western support collapses. Years into this catastrophe, Moscow is still fighting over villages while Ukrainian drones strike refineries deep inside Russia. Putin, naturally, hears something else. His court consists of well-fed Labradors, wagging at every absurdity and calling it grand strategy. Now Donald Trump has joined the kennel, a serial loser whose business genius included bankrupting casinos. There they sit, two men confusing flattery with reality, firmly at the bottom of the league while Ukraine keeps landing blows.
Replying to @TheStudyofWar
2/ Russian forces have made effectively zero net gains in 2026 at the cost of over 40,000 casualties per month since July and around 458 casualties for every square kilometer of territory that Russian forces lost.

I certainly value the life of Putin less than my dog
Correct take. If you value an animal life the same as a human life, there's probably something wrong with you and you should get help. A likely ill, disabled or psychotic human being gets eaten alive and freaks feel bad for the tiger. Who gives a shit about the tiger.

Avian molecular clocks suggest that the ~12,000 bird species in the Holocene descend from a small number of species surviving the Chicxulub impact and Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction. Perhaps as few as three species give rise to all modern birds.

#ClimateBrawl October comparisons (to date) for solar cycles 24 vs 25 on sunspots & insolation. This shouldn't "surprise" - cycle 25 w/almost 7 years completed is much more active w/~30% more sunspots but this has yielded only 0.015% more insolation. Guess is isn't "the sun"

Je kunt hem ook omdraaien. Als iemand de broeikastheorie kan weerleggen, ligt de Nobelprijs voor het oprapen. Echter is het nog geen enkele wetenschapper gelukt om een studie te publiceren die dat doet.

The Slate Truck is the cheapest new vehicle in America and it has crank windows. -$24,950 -205 miles on a charge -No screen. No paint. No power windows -Gray plastic from the factory. You wrap it. Or bolt on an SUV kit later. -Built in Indiana Is this small truck about to revolutionize the auto industry?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
It is not the least expensive new vehicle in the US. A painted Hyundai Venue has an MSRP of $20,500 hyundaiusa.com/us/en/vehicles…

150 years ago it took a single barrel of oil to make 100 barrels. Now, it takes 20. It will double in the next 18 years. By 2050, the oil industry uses half what it makes. marcusgibson.substack.com/p/…

PSA: Your washing machine won't reliably kill ticks, but your dryer will. A USDA entomologist figured this out after he found a live one crawling on his washer's agitator. So he bagged up tick nymphs and ran them through the laundry. Most survived the cold and warm cycles. 95% of the lone star ticks survived hot water. What killed them is the dryer. A CDC team later found that dry clothes tossed straight into the dryer on high heat killed the ticks in about 6 minutes. Washing first made it worse: the damp load took 50 minutes on high to do the same job. Ticks die by drying out, and wet clothes buy them time. In a lot of the country, adult deer ticks get a second season in October and November, right when everyone's out raking leaves. They don't quit at the first frost. They're out on any day warm enough, even in winter. When you come in from the yard or from a long hike this fall, put your clothes in the dryer on high for 10 minutes, then wash them. The ticks won't stand a chance.

very hard for me to reconcile these numbers 425ppm = 15m SLR not by 2100 but if we dont change at the same time we are not staying at 425 but continually rising at over 2ppm a yr and 38GT with a likely ECS of 3 and an ESS of 6 and a drawdown of centuries
What is the world's most overrated problem? It's easily climate change. You can trust the experts. Climate change is real and it's happening. But the experts also do estimates of the damage, and the vast majority come out to less than 10% of world GDP by 2100. That's not 10% poorer than today. It's 10% poorer than we otherwise would be. But if we increase GDP growth by less than 0.2 percentage points a year, it'll more than cover the likely effects of climate. Getting off fossil fuels also has costs, and there are OECD projections where doing so doesn't even pay for itself by 2100. Meanwhile, as temperatures go up, deaths from natural disasters have collapsed as increasing wealth allows people to better adjust to changing climate and weather. Climate hysteria needs to be understood in the larger context of Westerners being enamored by the idea that we are evil for sinning against Mother Earth, who will eventually take her revenge. This contradicts our history as a species, where growth and technology rather than restraint are what solve problems and increase human flourishing. richardhanania.com/p/climate…

Many ppl told me on a previous post, if I love wind farms. Then put one in my backyard. If I could, I would! Think the income…. When those ppl are ask, what’s their solution, it’s always nuclear. I wonder if any would happily have a nuclear power station in their yard?

When you chuck a rock, the hog that squeals is the one you hit. Take note of the accounts whining this morning about Ukrainian strikes on Russian targets around Moscow. They work for the Kremlin, either in a paid capacity, or as useful idiots.
