Today marks the 60th anniversary of #LiteracyDay, a time to recognize that literacy is a fundamental human right for all. This year’s theme, “Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity,” provides an opportunity to deepen our understanding of persistent and emerging challenges, and shape future literacy agendas in a rapidly changing world. #LiteracyDay @UNESCO @SenateCA

Keep your four-way flashing lights OFF when you are driving with traffic, even if the driving conditions are less than ideal. But always drive with your full headlighting and tail lighting systems turned on - day and night. #BeSeen You can use your four-way way flashing lights momentarily if you're coming to a sudden and unexpected slow down or stop on the highway. Only use four-ways continously when your vehicle IS the hazard. For example, stopped and blocking a live lane. ^ks – at Innisfil, Ontario

If you work in science long enough, you start noticing something strange. No matter the technology, the same arguments appear again and again. GMOs, vaccines, nuclear energy, pesticides: Different technology. Same script. It starts with a claim that sounds careful: “There have been no long-term studies.” Except there have. Decades of them. Vaccines have been studied since the 1940s. Nuclear power has more than 60 years of operational data. Modern pesticides go through a decade of testing before approval. GM crops have been assessed by over 70 countries and thousands of independent researchers. The studies exist. They’re public. And they consistently converge on the same point: when regulated properly, these technologies are safe and beneficial. Then comes the next line: “We just need more testing.” But the people saying this rarely know the tests that already exist. “We need more testing” often means “I don’t trust the testing we already did.” When evidence doesn’t work, the conversation shifts to emotion. “DNA changes.” “Frankenfood." “Chemicals.” These aren’t scientific concepts - they’re placeholders for unease. Fear fills the space left by unfamiliarity. Every field has its version of the same accusation: “Studies show harm.” Look closely and it’s always the same pattern: A handful of flawed or retracted studies amplified online, while thousands of rigorous, independent assessments are quietly ignored. Whether it’s GMOs, mRNA vaccines, nuclear energy, or plant protection products, the outliers get attention because fear spreads faster than evidence. And when all else fails, the final refuge appears: “The experts are lying” As if millions of scientists, farmers, engineers, doctors, and regulators across dozens of countries secretly coordinate a global conspiracy. The reality is far less dramatic: stringent regulation, transparent data, international oversight, and professional cultures built on safety. The script never changes. Only the object of fear does. The irony is that these technologies - so often framed as threats - are the very tools that have made life safer, longer, and more resilient. Vaccines prevented pandemics before they started. Nuclear power helped countries decarbonize faster than any other energy source. GM crops reduced pesticide use and protected harvests during droughts. Modern plant protection products kept food affordable and yields stable. Different tools. Different fields. One story. A story where fear tries to slow progress, and evidence quietly keeps the world running.

If the Trump administration is going to import Argentine beef to lower prices, can someone call them and tell them to do the same for phosphate?

Great example of how society is not understanding the science and would rather follow the narrative rather than change the narrative.
A bunch of pesticides were just banned in France. No protests. No viral petitions. No celebrations in Le Monde or on Instagram. Why? Because they were organic-approved. And the silence is deafening. 🧵 1/

The coverage on coffee prices and food inflation by CBC and The Canadian Press (the news outlet) is becoming insufferable. According to them, coffee prices are up solely because of climate change. Yes, climate change is a factor—but so are bad public policies. They routinely call on Liberal-leaning economists, many of whom haven’t published credible work on the topic in years, to reinforce Ottawa’s preferred narrative. No wonder Canadians remain so poorly informed.

Wonder where one signs up for this newly formed Union? Grain Buggy drivers need to be heard. Sometimes the combine driver is the reason for spilled beans! #stirringthepot in #CDNag
One of my first duties as the self-appointed head of the Grain Buggy Operators Union is to get chiropractic services covered on a benefit plan. My neck is killing me. #iykyk 😁

Wonder what the normal map would look like. It appears to be extreme heat but it’s not actually *that* hot. @WxOntario1 have a more realistic map?

100%. That's why I'm throwing this out there, to try and bring attention to it. The only thing we could justify exporting is UAN...and that is already on a razors edge.

So much truth in this statement: Rebel News exists because CBC has failed.
Happened to catch CBC last night, saw their segment criticizing Rebel News, suggesting these outlets are obstructing CBC from fulfilling its journalistic mandate. There may be some merit to that claim, but the reality is Rebel News exists largely because CBC has failed to consistently uphold its role as a neutral source of information.

Gas prices are all over the map. Within a 10 min drive this morning not everyone dropped their prices after the removal of the carbon tax in ontario. 1529 - 135.9 - 116.9. Three different stations. Three different brands.

With all the political posts I must have missed the ones where each party stated what they would do for #CDNag. Nothing about #westCDNag or #Ontag which are both very active on here. 🤨 Anyone? Anyone??
