Things which have suddenly increased the risk of heart disorders:
Shovelling snow
Skipping breakfast
Post-pandemic stress disorder
Smoking
Energy price rises
Playing football
Watching football
Things which most certainly haven’t. Definitely not! No Siree 😡
The jabs.
HTH.
Hugging and kissing Gran was a Christmas duty - like eating sprouts - for all well brought up children.
As was being happy about the jumper she knitted for you for Christmas. And wearing it on Boxing Day.
And writing the “thank you” letter afterwards.
Obviously John Lewis prefer spoilt brats and unfit parents to civilised behaviour.
British journalists yet again trying to pretend that US “election night” is like British election nights.
Even though they know that:
US “election night” is only the last day of voting. Many Yanks have already been voting for weeks, whether in person or by post.
Results are “called”, rather than declared, by the US media even before the US polls have closed.
The actual results will take days, if not weeks, to be counted.
Nothing like Britain (except Blair’s postal voting).
Re a certain legal case.
It used to be the case that speech injunctions could only be obtained (in England) by people who claimed that the allegations were untrue, *and* the publisher did not say that they were true.
Now, because of the ECHR (and a certain Monaco Princess), injunctions can be obtained by people who say that the allegations *are* true, but that they are private.
Bizarre!

Yes - quite rightly, the John Lewis Christmas ad is being slated.
It is bad for so many reasons.
However, what it DOES get right is the correct depiction of many of today’s kids.
Selfish, rude & with a sense of entitlement all going unchecked by indulgent parents.
These AI videos of Picard meeting Q in the afterlife (this time for real) bring both Patrick Stewart and John De Lancie back to life (all too briefly).
I like to think that both would have appreciated these tributes.
🙏 Q Meets Jean-Luc Picard in the Afterlife. This One Hits Different.
The Patrick Stewart tribute we needed.
A beautifully done video from The Machine-Made Muse. Q and Picard, one last conversation. The tone, the delivery, the emotion; it lands.
Worth watching. Follow their work.

How can universities have gone through centuries of Reformation and Enlightenment, only to return to the imposition of quasi-religious dogma, prescribed social orthodoxy, and a Test Act?

Unelected officials are rubbish at reading the room. Cocooned in their ivory towers, they've never had to stand for election and they're completely unaccountable to electorates.
The EU got it completely wrong when they decided to make a monkey out of David Cameron and it resulted in a referendum, the outcome of which the out of touch failed to predict.
The Polish response to the attempted coup looks to be a similarly misjudged own goal by EU zealots.
Rather than shaping policy to reflect current political realities, the EU tries to double down on its doctrines. It's always a decade behind the times; slow, cumbersome, unable to be dynamic and in touch. It is the torpid author of its own demise.
It's crucified industry across Europe with its suicidal green agendas. It's destroyed businesses with excessive regulation, whilst simultaneously allowing sub standard imports from the Far East to flood the market.
Less than 2 decades ago Europe's economy was on par with the US, yet now it trails pathetically behind, unable to unleash itself from dogmatic, unyielding policy.
It finds itself swamped with illegal immigration; the very existence of Europe's cultural and historic identity is being extinguished before our eyes, but Shengen must be preserved at all costs and what a dear price we're all paying.

Nothing says “restoring rule of law” more powerfully than moving against a Court after close of business on a Friday -shortly after your Head of State has left the country - purporting to sack (and arrest) its senior judges, and surrounding it with police officers in riot gear.
The stand off around Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal is about restoring rule of law to an institution which had been politicised by the populist government which lost power in the election of 2023. Its president repeatedly broke the law by steering politically sensitive cases to hand-picked judges. It failed to pass its own budget,
The magic (and slowness) of cinema means there there is still an unseen Patrick Stewart performance to come.
He’s in Avengers Doomsday - including the trailer.
One last chance to see an actor who remained at the top of his craft until the very end.

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

Horrible news. Patrick Stewart was obviously a legend, remembered for so many of his classic roles. Truly a loss.
By way of my own remembrance, here’s what may have been the apex role of his career: A cameo as the conductor of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra who’s trying to date Frasier Crane on Frasier

Oh what horrible news.
A wonderful actor.
From Sejanus through Gurney Halleck and Professor X to Jean Luc Pickard.
And a distinguished Shakespearean actor.
