Key takeaway: "consumers are not rational agents". Solid post, worth a read.
re: airbnb discourse in college I worked as a server at an upscale steakhouse. we had a few different steak sauces that were made from scratch daily. they were expensive to make, and less than half of the customers that ordered steak wanted sauce, so the restaurant charged $3 for it we got complaints constantly. just at my own tables, half a dozen times a week I'd get complaints about being "nickel and dimed" for $3 of sauce on a $70 steak. a few times a month someone would mention it in an angry online review, or ask to speak to a manager and demand that it be removed from the bill because "who the hell charges for condiments?" after several years of this, finally management had enough. they raised the price of every steak by $3, and now complimentary sauce was included with each steak on request. want to hazard a guess about how many customers complained about the $3 price increase on steak? essentially zero. it was great, from the restaurants perspective! no more complaints, and instead of making $3 on 40% of steak orderers, they made $3 on all of them. and the customers were much happier, despite this deal being absolutely, unequivocally worse for them. consumers are not rational agents from microeconomics textbooks. very often the *feeling* of what they're being charged for matters way more than the absolute value of what they're being charged. I think that's more or less what happening with airbnb. people don't want to be charged a cleaning fee and then also told they have to clean, even if in the counterfactual world the additional cleaning fee is more than they'd be willing to pay someone to do the required cleaning. a $100 cleaning fee *feels* better than a $50 cleaning fee + "load the dishwasher and take the trash out to the dumpster", even though most people would not pay $50 to not have to do that.

Can Quen27B local LLM model do the hardware reverse engineering that is getting blocked by Claude Opus now? Need to fix a printer, and see what's going on with my Samsung TV.

Just started on this AI journey bout 4 months ago. I don't open a code editor, Github etc. Just a terminal window, full screen. Claude Code pulls requirements from Slack; creates the ADO Feature and Stories, plans the code, writes the code, tests the code, creates the PR.

I'll desk check the code for anything I'm doing that's novel, and I have gates to manually run the new code in a build harness, but I'm not keying in new code or editing files. The PR is reviewed by another agent (Copilot), Claude Code resolves the issues, then a human checks.

Thanks, Thariq (@trq212) for the awesome tool set in Claude Code! It's good to be back in the terminal again after 20+ years of GUI copy-paste slop.

Okay this was pretty cool. My Grok bot assistant (Pip) crunched my analytics, current OCR payouts, and my Video Kickstart Bonus ($500 potential on the Nov 18 payout), then built a budget for a solo ~6-day Yellowstone trip in January. Pip also mapped content ideas and a reminder calendar across the next three pay periods. Nature and wildlife don’t go viral like rage-bait or politics, but humor does travel! So I'm going to try to lean harder into memes and jokes (you guys loved that mountain goat AllTrails post). Goal: cover about 2/3 of the trip with 𝕏 payouts from my content, not debt. That would require roughly 2M verified impressions between now and beginning of December. What I need from you: don’t lurk. Reply, quote, share the nature posts! I appreciate every comment and share you guys give me! Drop a Yellowstone winter tip for me or tell me something you'd like for me to capture out there!
I'm locked in a battle with my Grok bot assistant, Pip. Pip keeps pushing a January trip to Yellowstone to track moose, wolves, and otters. Send help.

Important note for GOG @CyberpunkGame users - you have a couple of steps to get the 2.5 update installed!
Big thanks to @crushovitz_b for solving this. You have to go to manage installation, then uncheck automatically update to new version and select Version 2.5

Amazing track from @Grimezsz - thanks for letting us use it in streams for a couple of years!
A very underappreciated Cyberpunk OST that I can't get enough of Delicate Weapons, absolute banger

Nah - PHP is just the gateway drug to perl. Although back in the day PHP3 beat mod-cgi with a stick for ease of coding.
I didn’t know my brain was still holding onto this news article I read from 2002, but this tweet pulled it out of me

This is the best rifle sling made. Hands down. – at Merriam, KS
The GIZMØ GLÏDÈR is $25. Fully padded. NIR-resistant materials. Universal mounts and tie-downs included. You could buy two, three, or even FOUR GIZMØ GLÏDÈRs for the price of a single padded two-point sling elsewhere in the industry. And that’s not a knock on anybody else’s gear. There’s plenty of great stuff out there. We just believe good equipment should be affordable.

Valdemar IV of Denmark would roughly be my 27th great-grandfather. Can't tell for sure - too much intermarriage between Denmark and Sweden. But my link: wxexw.blogspot.com/2026/08/g…
On July 27, 1361, the Danish king Valdemar IV landed an army on the Swedish island of Gotland and marched on the rich trading town of Visby. Standing in his way was a local army of Gotland farmers. The Danes were professional soldiers and hired mercenaries. The Gotlanders were whoever could be found. When archaeologists studied their bones centuries later, they found teenage boys, old men, and men with old injuries and deformities that would have made fighting hard. Some had badly healed fractures. Some had spinal problems. They were slaughtered just outside the town walls. A stone cross still stands at the site. Its inscription says that in 1361, the Gotlanders fell into the hands of the Danes before the gates of Visby. It asks the reader to pray for them. The town's merchants, according to tradition, kept the gates shut while it happened. Visby surrendered and paid the king to leave it alone. The dead were thrown into mass graves. And here is what makes Visby one of the most important battle sites in Europe. It was the middle of summer. The bodies were rotting fast. Armor was valuable, but stripping hundreds of decaying corpses was more than anyone was willing to do. So many of them were buried still wearing it. When archaeologists dug the graves in the early 1900s, they found skulls still inside their chain mail hoods. They found two dozen coats of plates, an early type of body armor made of iron plates riveted inside a fabric or leather covering. Almost none of this armor survives anywhere else. Visby is a big part of how we know what it looked like. They recovered the remains of around 1,200 people. The wounds tell the story of the fighting. Arrowheads lodged in skulls. Heads split by blades. And a huge number of cuts to the lower legs, especially the shins. Men were holding shields high to protect their heads and bodies, and the enemy went low. One skull had been hit so many times that researchers could see the man had kept taking blows after he was already down. Most battlefields lose their dead to scavengers and time. Visby kept them exactly as they fell, armor and all, because it was too hot to clean up.
