Colville Andersen says other cities, such as Sydney and Copenhagen, have tried to remove cycling infrastructure before, but sending bikers down detour routes didn’t work and some years later, protected bike lanes were implemented once again.
"Blaming bicycle lanes for traffic congestion is a pretty spectacular misunderstanding of how cities work," he said. "If you want to reduce gridlock, you give people more ways to get around."
"Instead of defaulting to this 1950s car-centric dinosaur mentality, you build more bike lanes, more tramways, trains, buses, walkable neighborhoods," Colville Andersen added.

Price discrepancies & unusual restrictions persist on the Ford government’s Staples portal weeks after its launch.
Single pack of crayons: $1.82.
3-pack of the same crayons: $39.59.
USB drives, headphones & some popsicle sticks remain restricted, while a $377 drill-bit set is still available for purchase.
And now, some teachers say they can’t even access the portal until Oct. 9, more than a month into the school year.

I’m at Union Station all the time. Are you?
It is not unsafe.
There is already a significant presence of City and TTC security and Metrolinx special constables.
Manufacturing a crisis around one of Toronto’s safest and most important gateways doesn’t make anyone safer. It scares people away from transit and undermines confidence in our city.
A mayor should be Toronto’s biggest champion. You cannot lead a city you are constantly talking down.
P.S. I’ve spent time in cities around the world with a heavy police presence. It does not make people feel safer - it signals that there is something to fear.
More than a quarter of a million people pass through Union Station every day. It should make commuters feel safe, visitors feel welcome, and investors feel like they’ve arrived in a city that has its act together.
As Mayor, I’ll put a permanent, visible police presence inside Union Station and raise the standard for safety and cleanliness across our transit system.
Toronto can do better.
Real change means setting a higher standard. And delivering real results.
