8. Another thing I love about writing is that it offers so many ways to move with and beyond the silences that threaten to swallow us. I am of course thinking of Audre Lorde's "Transformation of Silence into Language and Action"
12. Inspiration is hard for me because it's so fleeting. So I have to think about it as a practice, not as something that comes to me. I tend to write a lot in conversation with my own feelings. I also think curiosity is the most important habit of mind for me to cultivate.
17. Sometimes I like to listen to brown noise while I write, sometimes to ambient music (think whale sounds). Sometimes I like to listen to lykke li, or to the 1995 Little Women soundtrack. Sometimes it has to be silence.
