the bad news is that the only way to become a great lawyer is to bill lots of 200-hour months. the good news is that the byproduct of that is that you become really fucking smart and when you talk to people with trust funds or regular jobs, as soon as they open their low-wattage, unpenetrative mouths, you know you’re better than them and you earned that, through hundreds of difficult and boring weekends

15-year-old Javits Frimpong was fatally shot on his way to school in the Bronx. His father believes the killing may be tied to bullying his son endured. He brought Javits from Ghana for a better life, only to lose him to violence. NO child should have to fear for their life on the way to school!

Folks should read this, so that they can understand. I have seen some terrible takes on both here, and IG. This thread, is spot on 👏🏾👏🏾
Going to join the conversation because a lot of people who weren’t brought up in the Bronx and don’t understand what it’s like to live there have so many opinions and are passing judgment without fully understanding the societal context that precedes this tragedy.

Government of Ghana’s statement on the tragic killing of Javits Frimpong in the Bronx, New York. I have spoken to the father of Javits, Mr. Thomas Frimpong and directly conveyed the condolences of the Government and people of Ghana. On my instructions, officials of our Permanent Mission in New York have visited the family and coordinating with local authorities. The Foreign Ministry will work tirelessly with US authorities to ensure justice is secured. The family of Javits and his loved ones remain in our thoughts and prayers. May God grant his lovely soul a peaceful repose. For God and Country 🇬🇭 🙏🏾

Also, while you’re angry, direct some of that anger toward this country’s gun laws and its failure to keep firearms out of the wrong hands. 15yos shouldn’t be able to readily access guns, let alone use it to kill. This is not normal and should never be normalized.

The Bronx will not change overnight. So if you plan to raise or school your kids there, you have to understand the environment you’re bringing them into. Prepare them socially. The babies need membership, so please build community. Stay involved. Be mindful.

We can demand better for the Bronx while also being realistic about the Bronx we have today. Two things can be true. Rest in peace, Javits Frimpong. 🤎 I’m so sorry for the cruelty you endured, baby boy 😔 #JusticeforJavitsFrimpong
