Gerrymander and start an election! How predictable! I wish UCP had shown the same enthusiasm and urgency towards MH care corruption! Makes one wonder how bad that is…
"It was overwhelmingly clear from rural and urban voters alike that they didn’t want to blend areas ..p eople worried that if they were part of a small minority in a given constituency their interests would be lost. This concern was shared equally by rural and urban Albertans.."
“Unfortunately, it appears the majority of Alberta’s new boundaries panel didn’t give much consideration to public input when drawing the latest boundaries.”

BREAKING: Trump is reposting false claims that the midterm results were manipulated, including calls for hand counts and doubts about James Talarico's Texas Senate win.
It comes less than four days after he said he was "absolutely willing" to accept the results.

No wonder Smith is gerrymandering everything. Alberta corruption at scale. She can’t win a legitimate vote. And election time is near.
MRAICHE AND PROPOSED SITES
"Two proposed private surgical sites were cancelled and multiple addiction recovery construction projects were halted due to issues and investigations surrounding Edmonton businessman Sam Mraiche.
The fallout involves two separate situations:
Private Surgical Facilities (Red Deer and Lethbridge):
Alberta Health Services (AHS) terminated procurement negotiations for two proposed Chartered Surgical Facilities (CSFs) in Red Deer and Lethbridge.
The Reason:
The facilities were proposed by Prairie Surgical Centre, a corporate entity partially owned by Mraiche. AHS cancelled the talks due to ongoing procurement investigations, intense conflict-of-interest concerns, and highly elevated pricing proposals that far exceeded internal AHS cost estimates.
Addiction Recovery Centres (Métis Crossing and Tsuut'ina Nation):
Construction ground to a halt at two high-profile addiction recovery sites due to a massive legal and financial dispute involving Mraiche.
The Reason:
A multi-million dollar legal battle erupted between Mraiche and a local contractor over $11 million in funnelled project funds.
Because of the legal deadlock, subcontractors were left unpaid by over $1.9 million, forcing them to walk off the job and halt construction on the Métis Crossing and Tsuut'ina Nation recovery centres.
Prairie Surgical Centre:
Prairie Surgical Centre is a private business venture consisting of numbered companies.
Corporate registry records and legal letters reveal it is owned by a joint partnership:
Sam Mraiche--25% stake.
The Edmonton businessman controls a quarter share of the operational entity through his business ventures;
Three Local Physicians:
Doctors D'Arcy Durand,
Leslie Scheelar, and
Kenneth Hawkins own a substantial portion.
Notably, these same three doctors own the completely separate Alberta Surgical Group, but Mraiche only holds a stake in Prairie Surgical Centre.
Blayne Iskiw & His Wife--12% stake. Iskiw is a consultant and former procurement official for AHS.
Metis Crossing and Tsuut'ina Nation Recovery Centers:
The Métis Crossing Facility (Healing Waters Recovery Community):
Owned by the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (the Métis Nation of Alberta). It is being built on their land near Smoky Lake using a $35 million provincial grant.
The Tsuut'ina Nation Recovery Centre:
Owned entirely by the Tsuut'ina Nation, a First Nation located just outside of Calgary, backed by millions in provincial grants.
Mraiche connection:
The Indigenous nations awarded the multi-million dollar construction contracts to a residential builder named Melewka Homes Ltd.
Court filings later revealed that Melewka Homes is deeply financially linked to Sam Mraiche.
Mraiche allegedly funnelled over $11 million into the project. This triggered a massive legal battle that ultimately caused the construction projects to freeze...1/

I just read your column in the print edition of the Globe, and think you've done a great job explaining the significance of what's going on right now. It looks like this government is once again calculating that the public won't care and that they can therefore get away with this latest cynical political manipulation. We really don't need American-style gerrymandering in Canada, and should be proud of our country's tradition of independent electoral boundary commissions. The bottom line is that this unnecessary politicization of the process is corrosive to good governance and to public confidence itself.

How much did the Mraiche/Marshall network steal from us?
"While authorities have not yet declared a specific, finalized dollar figure for the exact net profit pocketed by the network, forensic tracking by the Auditor General and the RCMP centers around hundreds of millions of dollars in public funds distributed through highly inflated, non-competitive pipelines.
The specific contract values and individual profit margins currently under audit by authorities provide a clear roadmap of the massive financial scale:
The Total Public Contract Value under Probe:
Sworn evidence from Athana Mentzelopoulos's wrongful dismissal lawsuit reveals that the public health authority routed over $614 million in total supply, PPE, and service agreements to corporate entities owned by Sam Mraiche, including MHCare Medical and Carver PA Corp.
Investigators are currently auditing what percentage of this $614-million pool constituted illegitimate or artificially inflated margins.
The Outsized Surgical Multipliers: ASG Heritage Valley
Internal AHS cost logs obtained by investigators show that ASG Heritage Valley was billing the government $8,300 per hip replacement procedure, while the baseline public hospital cost for the identical surgery sits at just over $4,000.
Authorities believe that these double-rate contract structures allowed the private clinic to clear millions in excessive, taxpayer-funded profits per surgical block.
The Turkish Pain Medication Margin:
The Auditor General's review into the $70-million emergency contract for Turkish children's acetaminophen discovered a catastrophic loss of value:
The province paid out tens of millions of dollars upfront.
Out of the initial shipment, only a small fraction was safe or clinically viable for use.
The vast majority of the medication sat completely unused and had to be incinerated as hazardous waste, meaning the contractor's massive payout yielded virtually zero public benefit.
The 12-Week Land Flip Profit:
A separate probe by the Auditor General focuses on direct real estate exploitation.
Land titles show a numbered company controlled by Mraiche purchased an Edmonton commercial property for $1.7 million in mid-2024.
Exactly 12 weeks later, the company flipped the same property to Alberta Infrastructure for $2 million, walking away with a swift $300,000 taxpayer-funded profit without conducting any upgrades or structural changes.
Private Recovery Centre Lease-Back Pipelines:
Authorities are tracking a network of decentralized addiction-recovery facilities, spearheaded by Marshall and funded under Minister Williams' multi-million dollar budget.
These buildings were purchased by Mraiche-linked companies, like Melewka Homes Ltd, and leased back into the provincial network for as much as $480,000 per year per facility.
This structure created a permanent, highly lucrative private rental income pipeline.
Because the specialized RCMP anti-corruption unit has escalated its probe into potential money laundering and fraud, forensic accounting teams are actively mapping out shell company bank registries to determine exactly how many millions were siphoned out of these health contracts into the hands of private stakeholders...1/

Hi Texas Panderer!
I’ve lived in Iowa most of my life. I live in a red neighborhood in NW Iowa. Within one mile there were 10 Sand signs to 1 Lahn. I walked by them daily. I value decency, science, public schools, and accountability from our leaders.
A Patriotic Iowan
Can anyone please explain how every county in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas went blue? Really? I don't believe it. There's no freaking way that Farmers and Ranchers voted blue. No chance.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Every county in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas did not "go blue" but data did show that every county SHIFTED towards blue. For example all Texas counties moved towards the left more than when compared to the 2024. To reiterate this does not mean ALL counties went blue.
