Progressives blaming Eby’s defeat in the election timing are totally missing the point. The whole purpose of the early election was to try to overcome the government’s unpopularity rooted in its poor outcomes.
The real problem was the cumulative cost of Eby’s ideological agenda. His government was the last holdout of the failures of Trudeauian progressivism: a subordination of economic growth in favour of deficit financed welfare spending, a dogmatic commitment to climate change and its anti-development effects, excessive identity politics and an overly self critical posture towards Canadian history, and its radical experiment with the harm reduction model.
Election timing and campaign choices didn’t defeat the Eby government. A broad cross-section of British Columbians—from rural parts of the province to downtown Vancouver—rejected it based on the self-evident failure of its ideas.

Thank you, British Columbia.
Tonight, you voted for change. You voted for a government that will listen, keep life affordable, and never take your hard-earned money for granted.
I want to thank every volunteer who knocked on doors, made calls, and put up signs in the rain. I want to thank our candidates, who stepped forward in a snap election with no time to spare. And I want to thank my wife Shelley and my family for standing beside me every step of the way.
To those who didn’t vote for us: I will work just as hard for you. This is your government too.
The work starts now. Let’s get to it.

Thank you, Surrey! 2,500 of you packed the room tonight, and the energy was incredible. I’m so grateful to every single person who came out.
Looking at that crowd, I saw the people who keep British Columbia going. Hard workers. Builders. Families who’ve given so much to this province and deserve a government that finally works just as hard for them.
Surrey is ready for change and strong leadership.
On October 24th, vote Conservative.

Surrey turned out tonight for @LDoerkson. Change is coming.

The NDP are sad and flailing.
I stand behind Lorne Doerkson 1000% and I’m proud to have spent time in close ridings during this election, raising needed funds and encouraging voters to elect a strong Conservative government with Lorne at the helm.
He has done an incredible job as @Conservative_BC Leader and will do an even more incredible job as Premier of British Columbia.

Spent time with @ayla_dumais, @Conservative_BC candidate in WestVan-Sea-to-Sky. Informed, Ottawa experience, articulate on the issues. Like me, a rookie (albeit 4+ decades younger). I value my MLA, @JValeriote74, but this riding has too many needs to not be at the table now.

Only a Conservative MLA can actually deliver long awaited regional transit funding for the Sea to Sky.
No more MOUs, statements of support, or “advocacy”. As your MLA, I will secure $15 Million in funding to initiate the Sea-to-Sky Regional Express Bus Pilot.
