I always have to check the dates on front pages like this because it feels like we're going in circles, nobody's learning a thing. 10 years.
🤔
Prediction... Burnham will call an early general election this week.
He's a populist, and he knows the political opportunity in front of him.
Reform are in retreat, the Tories haven't yet recovered, and the Greens are caught up in false accusations of antisemitism from Burnham and the Board of Deputies.
But there's something much bigger at play here.
Burnham is selling the promise of change while his government continues to defend so much of the political and economic establishment that desperately needs changing.
Just look at the last week. Jackdaw approved, the antisemitism in schools report endorsed, and now a few encouraging words about Europe have people falling over themselves to praise him.
It's political theatre, and it's working.
But the longer he governs, the harder it becomes to maintain the impression that change is already here all we've heard so far is talk.
So why not cash in on the honeymoon, and play the oldest trick in politics.
Sell the promise of change, secure the power to deliver it, then spend the next five years explaining why meaningful change isn't possible.

Same old story. Free speech is essential until they control the platforms. There’s too much billionaire money in politics until it’s their money. Too much debt until they’re in charge of spending. The Dems are too soft on defense until it’s time to kiss Putin’s ass.

Lmao Flavio Bolsonaro has been without Parliamentary immunity for all of 24 hours and he has so many criminal cases going into gear that the police is already asking he surrenders his passport to avoid him fleeing corruption charges

Replying to @Alonso_GD
He is dumb, correct, but he also knows very well what he is doing. He is, above all, a very dangerous man. A risk to any democracy.

Sounds like the kind of lowkey diplomatic chatter that should be normal in any major relationship, exploring ideas in a broad fashion to test boundaries with no firm commitments.
Just that it hasn't really happened before in UK-EU relations.

I'm in my 40s. I'm a lawyer. My wife is a lawyer. We both work full time.
We cannot afford the house my parents purchased on a single electrician's income in their 30s.
We cannot afford the house my immigrant grandparents purchased on a single MTA bus driver's salary in their 30s. They had SIX CHILDREN.
For 30 years, politicians in Washington & their oligarch allies convinced regular people that this was just about avocado toast and fancy coffee.
In reality, this is end-stage capitalism. Everyone is stuck in place. It's impossible to buy a home. It's too costly to move. We work too much to have passion projects. We don't have enough savings to start our own businesses. We can't afford to go without healthcare to do it.
Thanks for writing this article @troy_closson. Would be very happy to discuss further.

Spare a thought this morning for Nigel Farage. Here he is with Eduardo Bolsonaro, brother of Flavio & son of Jair. Eduardo is a fugitive from justice in the US, after being sentenced to 4 years in Brazil for illegal lobbying & trying to corrupt the judicial process.

"Nobody is threatening our place in the Single Market..."
This was the promise by the leaders of the Brexit "Leave" campaign (including Farage) before the Referendum in 2016.

Last week I did an interview for ITV, promoting my new live show.
In the interview I say that Rupert Lowe has his legal bills paid for by Elon Musk. Rupert Lowe has contacted me to point out that that isn’t the case. Happy to set the record straight and apologise for the error.

Wool. It *works*
Every modern upgrade to wool is wool's job done worse, by oil, with a brand name on it.
Fleece. What it is: polyester, the same stuff as the bottle. Why it exists: because wool is warm, and the bottle wanted the contract.
Gore-Tex. What it is: a PTFE film, a forever chemical, glued to nylon. Why it exists: because wool shed rain and breathed for ten thousand years, and the film does both for about a season before it wets out.
Thinsulate. What it is: polyester and polypropylene fluff with a trademark. Why it exists: because down and wool insulate, and oil needed a word.
Moisture-wicking. What it is: a fibre that cannot absorb water at all. Why it exists: because wool takes in a third of its weight and still feels dry, polyester cannot, so the failure was renamed a feature.
Odour-control base layers. What it is: polyester with silver sprayed on. Why it exists: because polyester stinks after four hours and wool does not, and the silver washes into the river by the third wash.
Flame-retardant finish. What it is: a chemical bath, replaced every decade when the last one turns out to be carcinogenic. Why it exists: because polyester melts at 250 degrees and wool will not burn in ordinary air.
Merino blend. What it is: half wool, half nylon. Why it exists: so the label can say merino and the price can say wool while the jumper is half plastic.
Vegan wool. What it is: acrylic. Why it exists: because a sheep had to be left out of a jumper on principle, and the oil well was fine.
Recycled polyester. What it is: the same plastic, from a bottle, shedding the same fibres. Why it exists: so the jumper can be sold as a good deed.
Bamboo. What it is: viscose, which is wood pulp dissolved in carbon disulphide. Why it exists: because a plant on the label sells, and the factory downstream does not.
Every one of those exists to add back a property wool came with, and every one adds a chemical, a smell, a fire or a plastic in the sea to do it.
The sheep did the lot at once, on a hill, for grass, and the industry has spent eighty years selling you the parts.

🇬🇧🇪🇺 Brexit is over.
The EU will offer the UK a new interim agreement at the November summit.
The UK will accept, allowing it to integrate into certain areas of the EU.
Reintegration will happen (formally or in practice) over the comming years
Even without formally rejoining, the plan is for the UK to return in practice through steps that do not require a referendum.
Europe must be united.
What on Earth are you doing? 87% of Labour voters believe Israel is committing a genocide. Attack the far right, not the Greens, fgs.
