Autists & psychopaths are opposites on empathy.
There's cognitive empathy & there's affective empathy.
Cognitive empathy (understanding & reading mental states & cues): autists struggle, psychopaths do not. Psychopaths can even have better cognitive empathy than normies!
Affective empathy (feeling others' emotions & pain): psychopaths struggle, autists do not. Some autists even experience hyper-empathy on this one!
In other words, psychopaths can read others quite well; they just won't empathize with them.
This can lead to extremely manipulative behavior because they don't care when they hurt other people. They don't feel what others are feeling, so it doesn't pain them to harm someone the way it would most of us.
Autists? We can't read social cues well, but once we know someone else is hurt, we feel it & we care!
So instead of manipulative behavior, you get someone who frequently *accidentally* offends people, but isn't *trying* to be harmful.
That's why psychopaths are feared & autists are either disliked or pitied.
Cuz what sounds scarier: the person who can't read the room but cares, or the person who CAN read the room & work it without feeling guilt if they hurt anyone?
Incidentally, this is why one of my fave shows is Hannibal. Hannibal is a psychopath; Will Graham says he's more on the autistic spectrum. Hannibal is pure manipulative evil; Will has such hyper-empathy he can empathize even with psychopaths.
But it's obviously easier to use great room-reading abilities & zero fucks given to your advantage than the polar opposite, for obvious reasons.
And I simply don't agree that psychopaths & autists share the same pathology. Like I said, they're actually kinda polar opposite!
Socially and human relationship wise, psychopaths and autists share nearly the same pathology. At least in their most notable psychological trait.
Both the psychopath/sociopath and the autistic's functioning in human emotional connection, the understanding of and reverence for human emotional connection, and the use of and recognition of their associated social cues is abnormal.
Lacking. They don't seem to have the innate program that runs unconscious emotional understanding which comes stock for most humans.
Their brain does not do this in the way that most people's do without them having to try. Psychopaths and artists have to learn this and consciously try.
And yet psychopaths are deemed villains for this while the autistic mostly garner sympathy, patience and help from others.
Why are psychopaths the villains and autists the long suffering unsung heroes?
Because the psychopathic mind has figured out how to utilize this trait towards their own gain and the autist hasn't?
I think we revere psychopathic traits whether we like to admit it or not and as such we view them as higher on the social hierarchy and powerful whereas reviews the artistic as low on the social hierarchy and inconsequential. They are victims of their abnormal psychology and should be helped.
Nobody views psychopaths as victims of their abnormal psychology.
Because they've taken their lack, their weakness, their abnormality and utilized it toward its strengths.
Take your own weakness and use it as a strength.

If you have ADHD in the UK at the moment it feels like every single day you have to read yet more misleading headlines and then the resulting commentary from people who seem to despise our very existence and it's so utterly, utterly demoralising and upsetting to just have no way to push back – at Winsford, England

My 26 years of being alive has taught me that women are the true up holders of the patriarchal system. There's nothing a woman hates more on this planet than a man who doesn't live up to the values of the patriarchal system. They definitely will deny it but time reveals all.

when neurotypical people forget that as an autistic person i literally have no sense of social hierarchy so im not afraid to say anything to anyone no matter 'high up' you are

Growing up autistic I’d see so many people breaking rules but I was a rule follower. The few times I’d break even the smallest rule I’d get in so much trouble and I genuinely never understood why it was okay for them to do it but not me? They hate us

Your bedroom should be cold, dark and boring.
If it’s also your office, gym and movie theater, your brain never gets the signal that it’s time to sleep.

one of the stranger parts of being an adult is realising how many people have never questioned a single belief they inherited, not even out of curiosity.

You actually can't win if you're autistic btw. You try to socialize: they hate you. You keep to yourself: they hate you. Like I'm sorry, I didn't choose having to work. I thought I was doing you guys a favor by making it easy to ignore me, but I guess that's wrong, too

Being single in the UK right now is an absolute financial trap.
You pay 100% of the rent yourself.
You pay 100% of the council tax (that 25% single discount is a joke).
You pay 100% of the standing charges on gas and electric.
You pay the full Wi-Fi bill.
You pay for every single repair, subscription, and grocery shop alone.
It’s not even about finding love anymore.
People are actively dating just to find someone to split the bloody Wi-Fi with.

I saw a TikTok saying that a lot of people don’t realize they’re autistic until they get on adhd meds bc their brain finally slows down enough to realize if they’re not impulsively speaking, they don’t get social cues. That’s EXACTLY what happened to me!

lol my dad is a revert (what it's called when you convert to islam) and he said the food part was easy bc he's never really liked pork. I asked him how it tastes and he said "like chicken if it was bad and extremely salty" . he does not miss it at all lmao

Autists really gotta learn this one reliable trick:
1. BRIEFLY tell someone about something you’re interested in (as in, keep it under a minute, or ideally under 30 seconds)
2. WAIT to see whether they solicit further information
3. IF they only act polite, STOP talking about it
