Have to say Scott, I really enjoy your content on twitter, you are not afraid to ask difficult questions, always professional in your interactions and always willing to consider both sides to every story. Keep up the good work.
I backed Amorim a lot, he was doing a lot of good things off the pitch, reseting the culture, getting rid of the bad eggs and installing standards - he wasnt affraid to make hard or uncomfortable calls as needed. He had a clear vision to where he wanted to get too but it required time, squad investment and high intensity players.
People who hounded him out can only point to two things - win ratio and his treatment of Kobbie and I highly doubt ANY of them would backtrack and admit they were wrong - your average fan doesnt have the maturity to see the bigger picture or realise ALL the exact things they are currently defending & excusing Carrick for.. applied to Amorim as well. He had the same working conditions and environment Carrick did. The double standards and hypocrisy is off the chart. People conveniently ignore that we threw the league games in Amorims 1st season playing weaker sides to focus on the Europa league, a decision every fan agreed with at the time as it was the easier way to secure Champions League via that route and it was so close to being the right decision.
He wasnt backed also. The board hired him to play his style without understanding how many players they needed to make that happen.. that was on the board. He had to replace 8-9 players and got 5. The drop off from the starting 11 to the backups was ridiculous. Then we was decimated by injuries in the December + Afcons was the final nail in his coffin. If the board let Carrick down they most certainly let Amorim down also. They bought him in and promised to back him with time and the correct players, then didnt give him either. If you can get him the system players he needs then why sign him in the first place.
In the end Amorim took issue with Wilcox telling him how to manage the team and what formation to play.. The same Wilcox that everyone is now saying is incompetent, unfit for his job and should be sacked? So was Ruben that wrong to take issue with Wilcox telling him what to do?
If Wilcox told Carrick to flex, start different players and change his formation, people would be in uproar getting the pitchforks out for Wilcox but when Amorim did it they backed Wilcox 🤣🤦🤷 make it make sense?
In the end, the manager is never the biggest problem at this club. If its taken Carrick to wake some fans up to realise that then great 🙏 hopefully now the fans understand the difficult environment ALL Manchester United mangers have to operate in and support whoever is in the hotseat after Carrick... because sure as shit whoever takes over is going to need the fans support to stand any chance of building something sustainable..
The jury is still out on Ineos, without knowing exactly what involvement Glazers have on major decisions its hard to know if this is all on Ineos or if the Glazers are still slowly destroying the club just with another oarty taling the flack for it.
What I do know is if this form continues and the fan backlash continues, Ineos will walk way or encourage Glazers for a full sale and until **something** changes in the ownership structure its going to be incredible challenging for ANY manager to succeed without a huge slice of luck, a ton of momentum and the ability to build a proper "us vs the world" mentality in that dressing room.... (and that ain't Carrick, he's too nice and too busy dreaming of 20 years ago when we was actually good)
Sorry the essay! 🙏

Carrick is not THE problem... but he absolutely is right now is big part of this seasons problems. I loved the player, he was without doubt the most underrated player of the Fergie era, a silent assassin that just made us tick. He cares and loves the club and will forever be a friend to the club...
But...
Right now Manchester United need a coach that can grind out results with games every 3/4 days. They need a coach that can get a demoralised & battered group of players motivated and playing for each other. They need a coach that can coach wins and know when to park the bus, when to go for broke... dare I say it we need a coach that can inspire and put some belief into there players because like it or not we cant sell all of them!!
Carrick as an interim bought all of that as he walked in as a friend to the players, he stopped the intense training sessions and gave them a few months rest from the intensity of Amorim.
Problem is interim Carrick is NOT the same as Permanent coach Carrick. There is no hinding. There is no "well its better than Amorim" excuse.. in fact in isolation of this season its much worse than Amorim!
Carrick doesn't have a plan, he isn't building any identity and nobody has a clue what system he is actually trying to play - not the fans or the players it seems. He certainly isn't inspiring any United DNA football. Its a total snooze fest.
I love the guy, but all this.. "he's not the problem" "we should back him" is not it. He is a problem and we absolutely should be bringing in someone more experienced with a plan. Love for the club only gets you so far, in the PL you have to have a plan, a proper plan to maximise your strengths and mitigate your weaknesses otherwise most teams will eat you alive.
As was preached under Amorim, if what you are doing isn't working then you have to adapt, go back to basics, make us hard to beat. If he cant even do that then he really needs to step aside.. Conte, Howe, Nagelsmann, hell even Mckenna or Ole would be better for us right now in our current situation.
I'm confident and praying to god Utd are doing detailed interviews in the background and assessing who has the best plan to utilise the current squad, this season... plenty of managers could get more out of this squad than Carrick is currently, I dont believe this squad is as bad as our current league position suggests.
I do feel bad for bad for him, his whole gameplan has been decimated with injuries just like it was for ETH and Ruben.. but also just like them there has got to be an element of "but is he getting the best out of what who he does have available" and the answer is sadly, NO
And before anyone says it, I totally get and agree that the owners, mainly the Glazers are the real problem.. but we are where we are and just like the all other 19 PL managers you've got what squad you've got when the window shuts... and quite frankly until our financial position improves or the Glazers piss off its probably not going to get any better any time soon on the investment front. We need a manager that can operate with what we have.
I try my best to stay off the twitter feed these days but this is absolutely worth a shout-out. Genuinely one of the most informative, calm, sensible fans I know.

Manchester United fans before and after this Orny bomba 🤣
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United closing in on deal to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion. #MUFC offer for 22yo Cameroon midfielder ~£60+5m; below #BHAFC valuation but amicable talks continue as all parties work to reach agreement @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/7243081…
The WC final played out exactly as expected..
Spain - worthy winners in the end but so boring. Playing possession type football in the style of Pep's Barcelona 💤💤
Argentina - absolute thugs. Constant fouling, play acting, dirty players galore.
Some won't agree but if we had a referee like tonight on the England vs Argentina semi-final who wasn't afraid to card players, I reckon England would have won and reached the final.
We would have at least given Spain a better game than Argentina did!!
Overall really enjoyed the World Cup, several great games, big players all turned up, several upsets, lots of emerging talent on show.. and lots of manager turnover bringing about new beginnings for France, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Mexico, Scotland, Uruguay, Mexico, Croatia etc
But i think we can ALL agree - get football as far away as the USA as possible!
Up next for England in the nations league: World Champions Spain! 🇪🇸
With every goal England score tonight it makes Wednesday nights result an even harder pill to swallow 😱
In other news, Manchester United should 100% sign Djed Spence and Ivan Toney. Perfect full-back and rotation striker for what we need right now 🔴 – at Dormansland, South East
Two very sensible singings 🙌
Keep them coming.
Santos, young, exciting, calm head, energetic with a high ceiling..
Tielemans, tons of PL experience, energetic, great tackler, proper all rounder..
Can we also now finally stop thinking ITK's and Journo's know everything that is going on at the club. Every single summer for as long as I can remember we sign players that nobody linked us too. All this "top targets" "on the list" "only looking at" bollocks is pure 1+1 guesswork; linking us to the top 1% of players at smaller clubs.. anyone thats ever played football manager could do that, probably better than these jokers..
Not a single one saw either of these coming this summer - too busy chasing clicks and winding everyone up talking Anderson, Tchouemeni, Tonali, M.Fernandes etc..
Look forward to the next few summer signings which I'm 99% sure there will be more of them that nobody sees coming 🙌
🚨2️⃣ Manchester United to announce both new midfield signings soon for £85m total fee add-ons included.
🇧🇪 Tielemans, medical tomorrow, £35m.
🇧🇷 Andrey Santos, medical done and deal signed, £50m.
❌ Éderson, off since Friday despite denials.
🎥➕ youtu.be/bGEeS7XZiiY
Very happy with this signing. Seem very sensible, well scouted, with PL experience and a fee that allows us to keep strengthening in other areas also.
Being 2nd fiddle to Caicedo & Fernandez is very similar to how Cole Palmer was playing 2nd fiddle to KDB, Foden, Silva & Co... and we all saw how that turned out when he got his chance to flourish - hopefully Santos will do the same with us.
Another Brazilian, with 1 Brazilian leaving and 2 arriving, Cunha & his new midfield friends will be samba dancing and tearing up the PL & CL before you know it!
It feels like we are building a team of the correct profiles and not ego's, big wages & Galactico's - I'm happy with this.
Arsenal showed recently this is the proper way to squad build with similar signings that helped them to the title and a CL final.
Whats even better - not a single journalist or ITK or anyone had us heavily linked with Andrey until 3 days ago - goes to show most of them are full of shit and have no idea who we are in for and who we are not. Maybe its time to stop hanging off every single word they say like they've hacked Christian Vivell's phone.
We will sign a 3rd midfielder, no idea when and no idea the profile but I'm super calm - we are squad building well on top of a team foundation that comfortably finished 3rd last season - plenty more signings to come this summer...
🚨 EXCL: Manchester United reach agreement with Chelsea to sign Andrey Santos. Deal for 22yo #CFC midfielder worth £48m + £2m easily achievable add-ons & 10% sell-on clause. Permission given to undergo #MUFC medical; personal terms in place @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/7425274…
Dear English Manchester United Fans on twitter....
Cheer the fuck up!😊
I get it.. Its grained into you to be depressing, pessimistic moaners.. but C'mon this isn't United its England at a World Cup.. Enjoy it! it only comes around once every 4 years!
Twitter has made you think moaning about a manager, a lineup, the squad, a player or a substitution is NORMAL.. ITS NOT! Football is to be enjoyed, with your friends and family; World Cups are great with tons of magic moments and great games.. enjoy it for what it is..
Giving it:
"They won't beat Croatia"
"They won't beat Panama"
"They won't beat DR Congo"
"They definitely won't beat Mexico"
"No way they beat Norway"
is borrrrinnggggggggggg!
Mexico ❌️
Norway ⏳️
Argentina ⏳️
France ⏳️
It "might" be coming home! lets take it game by game and enjoy it!🏴
Don't worry, you can get back to moaning about United in a few weeks!
Carrick might just be the one.
He's got such a calm, composed aura about him - it reminds me of Ancelotti / Zidane at Madrid.
At 2-2, I didnt accept that would be it, I knew we'd find something, knew we'd not give up.
Its not about the subs, the formation or the setup - its about belief, confidence and attitude.
Carrick is bringing that and these players are starting to realise their potential and play to it 🙏
We wont play like we did vs City or Arsenal every week but we have to find ways to win, rack up points and capitalise on results like Villa's today.
#GGMU Another week of feeling great about Manchester United and optimistic 👌
Guys FFS... Its an opinion, I like him as a player.
You really don't need to be so salty, angry and rude if you don't agree. Relax. Its not that deep.
One thing with Casemiro leaving, we cannot underestimate the value of having someone with his experience in the dressing room.
He is like havingn a 2nd coach in the dressing room and on the pitch.
I'm all for some wonderkid midfield signings but I'd love to add an experienced head to the squad to help with that leadership side.
Two players that spring to mind that are available on a free are Leon Goretzka or Robert Lewandowski 🤔
Thank you for everything @Casemiro👏
A classy player on and off the pitch, an experienced, calm head that proved that class is permanent.
16 games left to fire us into the Champions League - that would be the perfect leaving present! 🙏🔴
ℹ️ @Casemiro will depart United at the end of the season, upon the expiry of his contract.
A serial winner, we thank Case for his contributions in red so far and hope to finish his time at the club on a high together 🙏🔴
This fucks me right off. You could point to several stupid decisions like this that have gone against United this season.
If the referee's and VAR did there jobs correctly we would easilly have 9+ more points this season.
Blatent incompetence.
Some will say "but you shouldn't need the ref to win games" they are bellends.
This was 100% a goal, anyone thats ever played the game will agree. Watch 50 goals like this get given between now and the end of the season.
🚨 Lisandro Martinez's goal for Manchester United against Burnley earlier this month should not have been ruled out by referee Stuart Attwell, the Premier League's Key Match Incidents (KMI) Panel has said.
The panel felt that "the contact was exaggerated by Walker and the decision to disallow the goal for a foul was incorrect"
"The decision not to intervene by VAR was split but supported on the basis it wasn't a clear and obvious error."

In an alternate universe, the @goodbadftblpod would have gone something like this:
Nicky Butt: "Right, we’ve got to start with the Derby. I’ll hold my hands up.. last week I was worried about the physical mismatch. I made a joke about Haaland picking him up like a toddler, and honestly, looking back, it was lazy. It was pub talk. What we actually saw on Saturday was a masterclass in center-half play."
Paul Scholes: "Yeah, I’m with you, Nick. I said Haaland would throw him in the net, but Licha didn’t even let him get near the goal. I should know better than anyone.. I wasn't the biggest lad on the pitch either. It’s not about how tall you are; it’s about where your head is. His reading of the game is as good as any defender I played with."
Nicky Butt: "Exactly. Look at the stats from the weekend. Haaland was substituted in the 80th minute because he was a non-factor. Licha didn’t try to out-muscle him in the air every time; he stepped in front, he nipped at his ankles, and he used that low center of gravity to win the ground duels. He finished with 100% aerial duels won against Leeds the week before, and he carried that same dominance into the City game."
Paul Scholes: "And it’s the bravery, isn't it? He’s just come back from that knee injury, and he’s playing like he never left. He’s the heart of that dressing room. You saw him after the game, talking about the 'blood and DNA' of United. That’s what we want. We shouldn't be mocking the height of a guy who has won a World Cup and two Copa Américas by being exactly who he is."
Nicky Butt: "He invited us to his house for a chat, and you know what? We should go. Not to argue, but to tell him face-to-face that he’s the standard. He’s the ‘Butcher’ for a reason. He’s the first name on Carrick’s team sheet, and he should have been the first name on ours too. Sorry, Licha. You’re a warrior."
Paul Scholes: "Spot on. I’ll take that tea now, no sugar, because I've already had enough humble pie this morning."

I'm walking on sunshine today. That was brilliant to watch. The game plan was awesome and worked to a tee. It's amazing what happens when players actually apply themselves for 90 minutes. The usual accounts are using it as a way to point score against Amorim, which is really weird in my mind, so I won't bother even addressing that. All I'll say is that if you watched us play C115y off the park and your first thought is about the former head coach, that's without a job, then you need to go out and touch grass. Enjoy the win Reds. I know I'll be watching that game a few times again.
Harry Maguire.
What a game, colossal header that set away Fernandes / Mbeumo for the first goal was 🔥
We've really really missed him and De Ligt, can only imagine where we'd be this season if that pair had been fit... the experience and calmness changed our whole defensive approach.
Clean sheet 🙌
Huge respect
