Following the appearance of another suspected Chinese mothership for submerged payloads in Guangzhou I have put down some preliminary observations on what we know and can tell about its characteristics for @navalnewscom:

Poland's military is facing serious technical problems with its South Korean-made K2GF main battle tanks.
According to Polish media, 30 of the 52 tanks operated by the 9th Armored Cavalry Brigade are currently inoperable due to mechanical failures.
Reported issues include engine overheating, transmission faults, and running gear problems.

Attack helicopters are themselves just platforms, launching ordnance for effect. There is no black and white step change. What started out as a gun and rocket carrier has morphed into an ATGM/AAM/NLOS strike carrier over several decades.
Drones are just another new payload.
"...so that, by the time the Type 45 starts going out of service, we have a hybrid replacement for that capability coming into service..."
Good luck with that. I give it...oh, three years before we will hear an entirely different tune.
The Ministry of Defence does not want to extend the life of the Type 45 destroyers and would rather spend the money on new technology, according to evidence given to the Defence Committee. Click image for more.

This actually is an interesting question: what were the most important US foreign policy issues since the fall of communism, in terms of the long-term welfare and power of the United States? My off-the-cuff ranking:
1) Chinese trade integration and WTO accession
2) German reunification w/ Westbindung
3) NATO enlargement
4) Post-2008 global financial backstop
5) Post-Soviet nuclear arms control, Nunn-Lugar etc
6) Iraq War(s) - some better some worse
7) Taiwan Straits Crisis and later South China Sea
8) Afghanistan intervention
9) TPP abandonment
10) North Korea nuclear agreement collapse
11) NAFTA
12) Ukraine half-assery (2014-2022)
13) Post-2011 LNG export approvals
14) 1991 Gulf War
15) Bosnia War and Dayton
16) Bucharest NATO compromise
17) JCPOA agreement and subsequent withdrawal
18) Plan Colombia / Andean drug policy
19) Global counter terrorism cooperation and C-ISIS
20) CISADA and global secondary sanx regime
21) Libya War
22) ABM treaty abandonment
23) PEPFAR, Ebola, and global health
24) Semiconductor controls
25) Kosovo
Largely agree w/this but the damage is done - the trust has already gone up in smoke. It will take a very long time for the US to come back from this. As the article says - they’ve throttled a paid for service at a time of war - next time maybe it’s an F35 enabler they turn off
New from me on the Starlink/shield fiasco. To paraphrase Talleyrand, it is worse than a crime; it is a mistake.
The long term blowback on the United States will be immense. csis.org/analysis/throttling…
Unsurprisingly, Navantia is developing a new AAW frigate with significant multirole capability based on the F110, in line with emerging requirements for every relevant European (and global) navy.
The Spanish Navy and Navantia are developing the new F110 IAMD frigate. This evolution of the Bonifaz class features advanced integrated air and missile defense capabilities to enhance fleet combat power and counter emerging aerial threats 🇪🇸

Ministers now seem less confident that the first DragonFire laser-directed energy weapon will be fitted to a Type 45 destroyer next year, as previously promised. @LukePollard @_AndersonStuart

A-4 ‘Super’ Skyhawks Playing The Bad Guys In European Skies
The A-4 Skyhawk, first flown 7 decades ago, is famed for its role as a Cold War 'red air' aggressor, and it lives on doing that mission to this day in Europe.

Chinese state media provides a video of their POV of the Second Thomas Shoal provisional agreement. Note the proximity and quantity of CCG small boats/RHIBs to BRP Sierra Madre + the use of a Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle to observe the resupply mission over the LST.
With China's permission, the Philippines delivered daily necessities to its illegally "grounded" vessel at Ren'ai Jiao on Wednesday. But the #Philippines again denies needing #China's approval for resupply. An exclusive video obtained by the Global Times shows that during the resupply operation on Wednesday, the Philippine vessel Iplp No.1 cooperated well with the CCG. It's clear who is lying. #RenaiJiao globaltimes.cn/page/202610/1…
German gun barrel manufacturing in Britain, British commandos operating off U-boats...the end is nigh! 🙃
🚨 The production of vital gun barrels for tanks and artillery pieces has resumed in the UK for the first time in two decades, with a German defence company making the weapons.
Wes Streeting, the defence secretary, officially opened the Rheinmetall “gun hall” in Telford, Shropshire.
The sprawling facility has the capacity to produce up to 245 long, metal barrels a year and more than 50 breeches - the block of metal at the rear end of the barrel.
Such numbers would be woefully inadequate were the UK ever to face a major war - but the manufacturing rate could be significantly ramped up in a time of crisis.
Ukraine says it has destroyed more than 12,000 Russian tanks and more than 5,000 artillery pieces since the start of Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion more than four and a half years ago.
“Britain is back in the business of making the weapons that our Armed Forces need to defend the nation against our adversaries,” the defence secretary said.
“From an empty site to full production in eight months, this is rapid reindustrialisation in action.”
The new site - 11,500 square metres - has production lines for two different types of weapons system.
One is for the 120mm gun that will fit on the updated Challenger 3 tank, which has yet to enter service.
The other is a 155 mm weapons system that will be used for artillery pieces.
General Sir Roly Walker, the head of the British army, also attended the factory opening along with Armin Papperger, the German chief executive of Rheinmetall AG. Mr Papperger is thought to be on a Russian hit list.
The Kremlin is accused of seeking to assassinate key defence industry figures in Europe as part of the a campaign of hostile action to undermine NATO’s push to rearm and to support Ukraine.
The Rheinmetall boss said: “We are committed to investing in the UK for the long term, expanding our industrial footprint and working together to deliver the capabilities needed for the future.
“By combining Rheinmetall’s expertise with British skills, innovation and manufacturing, we are strengthening the UK’s sovereign industrial capacity, supporting the Armed Forces and contributing to the security of NATO and Europe.”
