The Dad of a friend, ex-raf colleague, and airline pilot was tragically killed in this awful crash. It’s becoming more apparent that this may have been avoidable, which makes it an even bigger tragedy. Do you recall this crash and the conspiracy theories surrounding it?
Today we identify two people who signed ZD576 into service, in our view wrongly and tragically. It was not airworthy and 29 people died. Sir Donald Spiers & Air Chief Marshal Sir Anthony Bagnall Neither has been asked to explain those decisions to any inquiry. #chinookjustice

Video of fire on baggage container with luggage to be loaded onto BA585 just now at Milan Malpensa. Smart move to get the other containers out of the way before fire spread. If cause was lithium battery glad fire was there and not on plane
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The fire was in a baggage handling cart belonging to Aviapartner that had just unloaded luggage from an arriving British Airways flight from London, not in a container of luggage to be loaded onto the departing BA585; the cause was a short circuit, not a lithium battery. tg24.sky.it/cronaca/2026/0… ansa.it/sito/notizie/c…

This is an extremely unusual event, with a piece of engine becoming detached and striking the window, causing it to fail. Reportedly, an elderly man was then partially pulled out of the window. He is alive and being treated in a Greek hospital for friction burns, with no other reported injuries. I would be asking him for six numbers and putting on a lottery ticket.

Several #lightning strikes close to the #fires in western #Miami #Dade. Hoping it doesn’t start new fires. Many strikes far away from rainfall too could be problematic.

Such a tragic loss of three exceptional people. All our thoughts are with CHF at this time that the Fleet Air Arm family is really hurting. 💔
It is with great sadness that we can confirm the deaths of Lieutenant Commander Chris Gayson and Lieutenant Lily-Mae Fisher of 846 Naval Air Squadron, and Petty Officer Owen Green of 845 Naval Air Squadron, who died in Devon during routine training activity on 3 June.

Croatia A220 at Split. That big initial swing is indicative of an engine failure on the left at high speed. Despite briefly going on the grass this appears to be a well handled aborted take off. Outcome… a few dents and zero injuries. Good job everyone.

The 2001 Great Heck crash (also known as Selby) was one of a number of fatal rail accidents around that time. Potters Bar followed in 2002 but thankfully there have been very few bad accidents since.
This weekend, we marked 25 years since the Great Heck rail crash in a poignant memorial service at Selby Abbey. We paid tribute to those involved, alongside family and friends of those involved, first responders, representatives from emergency services, and industry colleagues.

Why it's been #raining every day this year.... The Jet Stream is meandering so an area of high pressure currently sitting over northern Europe is stuck. This has then blocked the areas of low atmospheric pressure from moving westwards and away from the British Isles. With nowhere for the low pressure to go, it has stayed over us. Hence the persistent precipitation since the start of the year.
