From an old “BR Veteran” (I rather like that) I absolutely agree. Having spent many years on SE (living and working in various guises) you really can see the integration and how it’s working for the better. Let’s hope it spreads nationwide.

@Clinnick1 and I spent a lot of time cogitating GBR's Rolling Stock and Infrastructure Strategy, and it adds to something I've been starting to feel for a while. Bear with. First, I don't pretend everything is perfect on the railway. There's huge cost pressures...

It's been a few years of uncertainty, a long time - my whole career - of a fragmented, dis-integrated railway. I will admit to having had some real fears for the future, but while they're not completely allayed, on balance, I'm more positive about said future than negative...

...for the first time since the pandemic. That feels significant on a personal level. And good.

There's an interview with DC Rail in the latest @Modern_Railways just published. Includes some interesting stuff on its Class 60s - the ultimate diesel heavy hauler.

Just need to commend the @GWRHelp train manager on the much delayed, extremely overcrowded Paddington to Plymouth train this afternoon. He kept up the communication. Even pointing out with a dads army 'Dont Panic' messages about the tree on the line. Bad journey but he did well

These situations reinforce the value of BBC local radio.

97mph just over the bay... this is proving rather stronger than we expected right now.
Storm Austen is now just to the south of the UK, A National Coastguard station measured a 97mph gust in St Ives although it's not an official weather station, thousands across Cornwall are reported to be without power. Winds will begin ramping up across parts of Devon shortly and then gradually further east as the storm continues to progress.

Not good. If you absolutely have to go out, take care, #Cornwall friends.
A30 Redruth Avers junction eastbound, a van is reported to be on its side - plus numerous fallen trees and debris cross Cornwall. Follow live: bbc.in/4yIPccZ Listen to BBC Radio Cornwall on FM, DAB Digital Radio and BBC Sounds for real-time travel updates. 🎙️

It’s the calm before the storm here. Crossing everything it’s not like goretti.

It's easy to jest about the railway's seemingly irresistible attraction to trampolines during storms, but it's bloody serious. A trampoline landing on the tracks is bad; one on the power lines or third-rail is worse; it doesn't bear thinking about one hitting a train.
🌬️ #StormAusten is coming! Live near the railway? Make sure you tie down objects like trampolines and garden furniture. These can easily blow onto the tracks and block train services. ❌ #WeatherAware @nationalrailenq @metoffice

assesses what might replace the capable but ageing Class 66s. @Captain_Deltic is on fine form analysing the @TPExpressTrains Alstom BEMU order, and we take a forensic look at the Rolling Stock & Infrastructure Strategy to discern what it's REALLY about. A clue here...

...battery trains, accessibility and couplings are not the most interesting element of it. Available in all good newsagents now - and of course online at modernrailways.com.

Another big storm incoming so I'm going to prepare differently for this. I'm going to tip the bin over in advance, throw the recycling bags around, and rub a balloon on @AssistantWoof to provide power. Never let it be said that I am not prepared.
