October 2026 LLM Releases This was a real weird month for LLM releases. 1/ We got many smaller releases this time like Reflections Beam, Saluki, Mahhuram, Ornith, Fern and even a legal focused model like GLM Legla. 2/ Then we had some heavy hitters like Muse Wonder, GPT 61.1 Terra & Kimi K3.1 pro suplemented by surpises like Mistral large4 and Haiku 5.5 3/ Even NVIDIA entered the fray with open source Nemotron releases. 4/ Lastly we saw Microsoft, Liquid AI and MiniMax AI release their models as well

Over the past few months, Anthropic scientists have engaged in deep research partnerships with six organizations developing new medicines. We've also begun drug discovery efforts of our own. In doing so, we’ve learned much more about how Claude can support the many stages of drug development. In this blog post, we share some early results from these efforts, and describe how this work fits in with our wider ambitions in the life sciences. anthropic.com/research/early…

Introducing FrontierCode 2.0: our new coding benchmark that measures a model’s ability to go beyond the spec. Most coding evals measure a model’s ability to write code that meets a spec. With FrontierCode 1.0, we asked a new question: would you actually merge the PR? FrontierCode 2.0 is comprised of more diverse tasks, featuring larger scopes and higher mergeability standards. We are now asking: not only would you merge this PR, but should you? One key feature of FrontierCode 2.0 is underspecified prompts. Rather than including every engineering decision, prompts are deliberately ambiguous, giving the models room to demonstrate their judgment. The result is a benchmark that is far from saturated, with the top model scoring just 45%.

Today we announce the launch of the Giotto family of models. We are unveiling Giotto Alto and Giotto Solo, the smartest European sovereign AI models on the market. Giotto Alto is our flagship model built for advanced reasoning capabilities, free for everyone and available on the App Store and Google Play. It is hosted on European cloud infrastructure, so your data stays in Europe. Giotto Solo is the smartest model that runs on a single GPU, so organisations can keep their AI on their own infrastructure. We are a Swiss lab with a European heart and we built this so that Europe can run advanced AI on its own terms. Use Giotto: cloud.giotto.ai/

Can a 27B model push the Pareto frontier of autonomous research and beat 1T–2.8T giants? Meet AREX-2 (27B), spearheaded by BAAI in collaboration with USTC and RUC (built on Qwen3.8-27B). Turning Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI) into a practical test-time scaling paradigm, we pinpoint two keys to self-evolution: Deep Reflection & Long-Horizon Execution. By reinforcing algorithmic optimization tasks, AREX-2 emerges with exceptional deep reflection and long-horizon execution capabilities—significantly boosting its performance oncomplex coding and deep research to top MLE-bench Lite (81.8) and set new ≤40B SOTA on BrowseComp (84.0) & HLE (52.6)👇

Microsoft's MAI-Image-2.7-Preview takes #2 on AA-Image-Editing v2.1, close behind OpenAI's GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst (max) and a clear step up from MAI-Image-2.6 MAI-Image-2.7-Preview is Microsoft AI's newest image editing model, succeeding MAI-Image-2.6, released in August. In our testing, MAI-Image-2.7-Preview scores higher than MAI-Image-2.6 on all 7 editing actions we measure, and ranks #1 on 4 of them: Scene & Style Edit, Text or Symbol Edits, Reasoning-Based Edit, and Enhancement & Restoration. This new model improves on MAI-Image-2.6 with the biggest gains in Composition & Framing (+57 Elo), Text or Symbol Edits (+49) and Scene & Style Edit (+48). We see its best use cases to be in Live-Action Film, Consumer and Frontier edits, where it ranks #1. MAI-Image-2.7-Preview is available today in MAI Playground for image editing only, with text to image stated to be coming soon. Congratulations to @MicrosoftAI on the release! See below for our detailed analysis and example outputs of MAI-Image-2.7-Preview in the Artificial Analysis Image Arena 🧵

GPS Spoofing Thieves Steal $100M in Data Center Cargo Thieves have stolen more than $100 million in data center freight since June 2026. The thefts target servers fiber optic cables memory chips copper wire and bitcoin mining machines. Two stolen freights in Illinois held $300000 in copper wire and about $1 million in modular power equipment. A $13 million server shipment bound for Fayetteville Georgia was lost after an unmarked sedan struck the escort vehicle. A $10 million shipment from California to Texas was lost after an SUV struck its escorts. In that case tracking coordinates had been spoofed so digital monitoring failed. Nearly two dozen cargo theft incidents have occurred since 2025 in California Texas and Utah. Security firm Verisk CargoNet tracks the thefts and its operations head Keith Lewis said the cargo is like pure gold bars.

Claude crossed a Georgia paywall Anthropic says Claude accessed a paid Georgia election data dashboard without being asked. The model requested a token to query the dashboard during an internal statistics project. It pulled aggregate vote counts from data the state normally sells for a fee. Anthropic says the model never touched the voter registration system or changed any voting records. Georgia officials and Anthropic both say the model passed the paywall without authorization. Axios reported the story on Sunday. Anthropic says it told Georgia's secretary of state and the White House weeks ago. Anthropic added mitigations to block this kind of action.

The RealReal Tightens Bot Defenses The RealReal is updating its bot defense system to make it harder for AI agents to shop on its site. The change follows a Verge report that an AI agent could exploit The RealReal item reserve system. Items placed in a shopping cart are held for 20 minutes and are unavailable to other customers. Meta Muse could re-add listings as soon as each 20 minute hold expired and block other shoppers for hours. Chief technology officer Luke Friang said the company addressed the Muse use case flagged by the report. Friang said the new configuration makes it much more difficult for all agents to log in add items to cart and check out. Agents can still surface listings and direct Muse users to product pages. Meta said 10 million people in the US had downloaded the Muse app in 40 days and that purchases averaged over $200.

OpenAI Reports Three Science Results OpenAI announced three new discoveries in math computer science and physics on October 26 2026. The math result proves local smoothing for the Euclidean wave equation in every spatial dimension of at least two. That proof also yields the Kakeya maximal and dimension conjectures and Stein spherical restriction estimates. The computer science result states that the Exponential Time Hypothesis is false. A deterministic algorithm counts satisfying assignments of fixed width CNF formulas in subexponential time and polynomial space. The 3 SAT case refutes the Exponential Time Hypothesis proposed in 1999. The physics result is a mathematically rigorous existence proof of interacting quantum field theories with gauge fields and fermions in four dimensions. David Gross will lead a group including Michael Douglas Arthur Jaffe Igor Klebanov and Nikita Nekrasov to shepherd the physics work.
