Mayor Olivia Chow. I'm a Toronto ER doc. I care for everyone. I don't belong to a political party. I see the best and worst of everything. I especially care for our city's vulnerable. If you haven't decided - I encourage you to vote for Mayor Chow. Smart and caring.

I believe this will be considered one of the most important videos in US history from this time.

Nathan Watts's bass on "Sir Duke", note by note.
Stevie wrote it as a tribute to Duke Ellington and the swing-era greats. The famous unison run has Watts doubling the horn section note for note, one of the hardest bass parts in pop.

Meet Martha. Except, well... you can't. She died in 1914, alone in a cage, the last passenger pigeon on Earth.
She was about 29 when she passed, which is old for a pigeon. Her two male companions died in 1909 and 1910 and after that, she was it.
The zoo offered $1,000, roughly $30,000 in today's money, to anyone who could bring her a mate. But nobody ever collected.
Her species had been the most abundant bird in North America and possibly the world. Flocks passed overhead for hours and blocked the sun. Audubon watched one migration in 1813 and put it at over a billion birds.
Then the telegraph arrived, and the railroads. That's what did them in.
Commercial hunters could wire ahead about a flock's location and ship barrels of birds to city markets overnight. Pigeon became the cheapest meat in America. They netted them, shot them, and burned sulfur under roost trees to drop them by the thousand.
It only took about fifty years to go from billions to none.
Martha was found on the floor of her cage on a September afternoon. They froze her in a 300-pound block of ice and put her on an express train to the Smithsonian. She arrived three days later, and she's still there today.

Ukrainians share their last memories of a relatively peaceful life—soon-to-be ruined by russia.
Ukraine has always been a peaceful, life-loving country. Still is—after all the hatred we endured. But it will always fight ferociously for moments like these🧵

One candidate has 15,000 units of city-led and supported housing under construction. As an ER doctor I can't emphasize enough how housing is the most powerful medicine.

David Suzuki had some choice words about Brad Bradford’s plan to make Toronto Water a municipal corporation

I lived in Toronto during the 70’s when David Crombie and John Sewell were Mayors. They both had a social conscience as does Olivia Chow. With Doug Ford as Premier, Toronto more than ever needs a Mayor with a social conscience.

World renowned environmentalist and activist David Suzuki spoke out Wednesday about mayoral candidate Brad Bradford’s plan for Toronto’s water and how it is managed, saying a fundamental need should not be seen as an avenue to make money.

“I think it’s crazy for a person saying they want to be mayor of the city and one of their [ideas] is potential privatization of something like water. That’s crazy,” said Suzuki.

Replying to @BradMBradford
This promise from Bradford is empty campaigning with a hidden destructive agenda. He cares so little about water that he voted against the heatwave program providing water to homeless people. And he is known for flip flopping on critical issues like bike lanes and shelters.

Legal experts confirm what we already knew: with Brad Bradford’s water corporation, control of Toronto's drinking water will be in Doug Ford's hands and the door will be open to privatization.

It’s wild that Brad Bradford vehemently opposed giving water to homeless people during a heat wave and now he wants to give control of Toronto’s water away forever to the highest bidder

This is what kills me about the 'cycle on side streets' on Yonge crowd. The laziness of the argument.
Is it too much to ask for publishers of articles advocating for cycling routes on secondary roads in Toronto to require their authors to submit a proposed alternative?
@RDiManno, is this the sort of secondary route you're thinking as an alternative to the Yonge Street lanes?
