. @babylonlabs_io has published a ARFC on the @aave governance forum to propose native Bitcoin to Aave V4 as collateral through Babylon Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV). Exciting to see the progress and next step from here as they push to Mainnet launch.
Today, we published an ARFC on the @aave governance forum to propose native Bitcoin to Aave V4 as collateral through Babylon Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV). The proposal includes two new Aave V4 Spokes; Babylon Spoke and BTCVault Swap Spoke for borrowing and liquidation settlement, revenue sharing terms and AAVE, BABY buybacks. If approved and implemented, Bitcoin holders can lock their native Bitcoin on the Bitcoin chain self-custodially, and use it as collateral to borrow supported assets on Aave V4, without wrapping, bridging, tri-party escrow, or sending their Bitcoin to third parties. Risk parameters for both Spokes will be provided by Aave's risk service providers. Subject to Aave governance review and approval. governance.aave.com/t/arfc-o…

.@baby_fisherman on what Babylon is: "We make iPhone work, we make iPhone more efficient, more powerful, but we don't build the iPhone. Crypto native people can use it, bank can use it, OTC desk can use it, everyone can use it." TBV is the CPU, not the phone. Infrastructure that the end user doesn't have to think about.

Why "trustless" isn't a buzzword. @puckrin: "CeFi lending on the Bitcoin side has a checkered history... lending out your Bitcoin to a provider who then goes and does something with it, re-hypothecates it, and then you end up losing your Bitcoin." The problem native Bitcoin collateral removes 👇

DeFi coming to Bitcoin feels inevitable. The bigger question is how we bring financial utility to BTC without compromising the properties that made Bitcoin valuable in the first place. @babylonlabs_io's Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV) plays an important role and offers a more compelling path. Native BTC can be used in DeFi without wrapping it or moving it through a traditional bridge. That creates a powerful combination: Bitcoin security + native BTC + DeFi utility. The opportunity is to expand what Bitcoin can do without giving up what makes Bitcoin Bitcoin. No bridging, no wrapping, no intermediaries. It's starting with the native Bitcoin backed borrowing with @aave v4.🔥 This unlock will change what Bitcoin can do in digital finance.

Nearly a decade after its emergence, Bitcoin-backed lending is entering a new phase. According to @SiliconVlyBank, crypto-backed lending reached $67B in Q1 2026, up nearly 50% year over year. The market is adopting more familiar credit structures, from conservative collateralization and automated monitoring to institutional funding and securitization. The result is a more mature market for Bitcoin borrowing. SVB highlights to another important development: the cost of Bitcoin borrowing is beginning to reduce. Bitcoin-backed loans still typically carry higher rates than comparable traditional credit products, but growing institutional participation could compress credit spreads over time. That creates room for Bitcoin to be changed from a reserve asset to a productive asset in credit markets. TBV enables capital-efficient, self-custodial use of native Bitcoin as collateral. As Bitcoin-backed credit matures, more native Bitcoin collateral will be adopted. svb.com/industry-insights/fi…
