If the compromise for trains and density is data centers, Flock cameras and a bloated police budget I am not on that side

It's been so eye-opening to see "progressives" completely gloss over Nithya's complete turn around on the supposed principles on which she ran the first time and got her elected. If you needed any further proof that YIMBY is how fascism infiltrates "the Left", this is it

A haunted house, but it's us showing you the U.S. incarceration rate compared to other countries.
Horrifying.
Guy who thinks that concerns with racism in policing is the same as anti-Muslim hate
Replying to @BornToChill
Asking us to condemn some random guy at the NYPD for stalking is like asking Abdul El-Sayed to condemn the Muslim Brotherhood. Our scope is security and fare collection on LA Metro, not any crime or abuse of power happening somewhere in America. This should be obvious.
It's interesting how @enforcethefares points to fare evaders as the main culprits of crime on Metro but when news of a cop being a creepy abuser of power perv they're dead silent. Every time I bring up the obvious systemic racism in current American policing they never engage

The US cops exist for no reason except to beat you into submission, filled with domestic abusers, rapists, nazis and murderers.
Defund the Police.
Police punch Hispanic man already pinned to ground—22 times.
Officer had already shot him with taser.
"He stiffly hit the ground after being tased, and his head banged on asphalt," said witness.
"Cop mounts him and starts beating—later 3 more piled on."
Just because man was standing in the road blocking some traffic.
Witnesses say he looked like he was having a mental episode—and was not trying to harm anyone.
Emergency crews were called and took the man to the hospital.
Local police confirmed the incident occurred at 3:15 pm—but released no other details except to say it was "under review."
Incident occurred on Auburn Way near 37th Street NE in Auburn, Washington.
When you skip the $1.75 Metro fare
GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING: This video contains police violence that may be distressing.
On October 28, an Auburn, Washington, police officer was filmed striking a 33-year-old man in the head and face approximately 20 times after using a Taser. Police say the encounter began because the man was running into traffic and attempting to enter passing vehicles. The man was hospitalized, and the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
Unacceptable. Every human being deserves dignity. Allegations against someone do not excuse excessive force.

What’s a polite way to tell someone, “I’m not discussing this with you because your entire understanding of the subject is built on so many interconnected misconceptions that correcting them would require uninstalling your current worldview and starting the tutorial from birth”?

Fare enforcement arguments aren't about transit, they are about police
Replying to @humantransit
Fare evasion is a social contract problem. We know enforcement can't be zero because that causes the problem to snowball. But it also makes no financial sense for labor-intensive enforcement to be really high. 5/

Lmao. Being a white person in LA and wanting more police is straight up white supremacist
This is the main point of @LaInaMinute’s whole media play about this incident
“There needs to be a narrative shift where kids and people want to be police officers”
What’s really going on here???

This is blind reasoning from fare enforcement advocates. That somehow transit cops are going to be different from regular cops, despite a sea of evidence to the contrary
It is a willing blindness to the realities of policing as an institution in America

Just to add one key piece of context to your thread, we oppose the pointless and counterproductive "visual TAP inspections" currently done by LAPD and LASD. We want all fare checks to be done by Metro TSOs, using handheld validators, as originally agreed to in 2017.

If you in any way defend police as an institution or want to talk about some "nuance" or how it's a "complex situation", you are the enemy of the people
Police handcuff Black 14 year old boy—for standing on his own front porch.
"I didn't do nothing. I'm a kid,"
the boy cries dropping to his knees.
"I don't give a shit!" officer yells.
"You fit the description."
The kid was just walking out his front door with his backpack on.

Police Chief said two officers’ actions are "under review."

NYC (Brooklyn) A suspected drunk driver plowed into six people — including three children — during a Halloween event outside a Brooklyn NYPD precinct, cops and sources said.
The 56-year-old motorist lost control of his black sedan around 4 p.m. and mounted the curb — hitting the victims at the “Trunk or Treat” event outside the 83rd Precinct stationhouse on Knickerbocker Avenue near Bleecker Street in Bushwick, police said.
He also struck a private ambulance stationed outside for the event, authorities said. (Imagery via David Burns/@FD4D) @NYCEMSwatch @EMSPAC1 @FDNY @NYPDPC @NYPDnews @NYPDDCPI @NYPD83Pct @NYPD1stDep @BushwickDaily @NYCMayor
This is where Carceral Urbanists and I differ: "police are there to help". Living in a whole (white) different world
Almost nobody gets arrested for first-time fare evasion unless they refuse to accept their ticket or do something very aggressive.
The MTA is losing hundreds of millions of dollars a year to fare evasion, so I'm glad the police are trying to help. Working-class people deserve quality public services.
