Outside of Talarico, who managed to run a “big tent” lefty-populist campaign, there was a pretty strong correlation between being more progressive and under performing in these midterms. Which is something Dems should probably pay close attention to!

Midterm election night saw massive wins for Latinos and Democrats, just as Chuck and Mike predicted. They haven't slept in days but are here to give you the most important details about the election outcomes.

Rubio is legit. His speech at the parthenon was probably one of the best political speeches of the 21st century.
If he nabs just 4 out of 10 Latinos outside of FL in 2028, he can win.
Especially when Dems are likely to fumble what little goodwill they built up by then.
Success with Latino voters "means running politically moderate and somewhat culturally conservative candidates in heavily Latino districts."
- From the man of the hour himself, @ChuckRocha, whose firm helped flip Texas.
I pick on Dems a lot. But I have to give respect where respect is due.
My @nytopinion on how we won back Latino voters and what we must do to keep them! Our firm won 25 competitive congressional races Tuesday night. I wanted to explain how and what’s next #NoDegreeRequired nytimes.com/2026/11/05/opini…

The problem is not that Mexican Americans are automatic Democrat voters in the same way that Cubans are automatic Republican voters.
The real problem is that Republicans only offer one brand of conservatism.
Mexican Americans are cultural products of the Southwest and West Coast.
These are regions with distinct histories, values, traditions, and sensibilities.
No matter how badly Republicans want it, conservatism in these regions will never look like the conservatism of the Midwest or South.
For some reason, the GOP and pollsters struggle to understand this.

There will now be two megachurch pastors in the Senate, but they're both Democrats so there will be zero thinkpieces about a threat to separation of church and state or the rise or Christian nationalism.
Latinos have officially put both parties on notice.
Democrats learned the hard way in 2024. Republicans learned the hard way in 2026.
The message is clear: Loyalty is not guaranteed. Political allegiance is not inherited.
The old playbooks are obsolete. The conventional rules of political engagement have been rewritten.
Any party that takes Latinos for granted, does so at its own peril.
Latinos aren't anyone's guaranteed voting bloc. They are a political force that both parties must respect.

I think the war in Iran was likely a huge unforced error for Trump, and also now for Republicans across the country.

Tonight will be further evidence of a Latino DEALIGNMENT not a REALIGNMENT.
Whichever party figures that out first will dominate US politics for a generation.

If Dems were hoping favorable early vote patterns would extend into EDay, that's not happening in Florida, where EDay turnout is tracking *much* more GOP (51%-26%) than the early vote (40%-38%).
Not at all surprising, considering so many energized Dems voted early/by mail.
Liberal states like Oregon are on the verge of throwing out progressives, while conservative states like Texas are on the verge of throwing out Republicans. What a fascinating political moment.
My guess is Talarico will perform above average with young adults, white women, Latinas, and left leaning indies (no surprise here).
But I'm highly skeptical he will win Latino men or white men by the earth shattering margin polls and pundits suggest.
I don't have a single homeboy who believes God is non-binary, or supports puberty blockers for children.
A new report in The New York Times examining the Texas Senate race found Latino men in Texas are not necessarily abandoning Trump, even as broader polling suggests Republican support is weakening.
What does this mean for Democrats' impending blue wave?

NYT: James Talarico’s internals are within the margin of error.
Some recent public surveys show Talarico either tied with Paxton or within the margin of error with a 2-point lead.
The candidate’s internal polls match those tighter surveys, people close to Talarico said, and may not be fully capturing the sentiments of rural conservative voters who support Trump.
