We’ve seen a lot of videos about big news outlets preparing for tonight and while the NYT says it has more than 100 staffers on duty, we at the @MaineVillager are proud to announce we have MORE THAN 4 reporters on duty. instagram.com/reel/DfSc_J_JP…

A venomous lie from a top US Defense Department official, before an audience of Latin American militaries last week. This evidence-free claim of links between NGOs and vicious criminal groups endangers human rights defenders throughout the hemisphere. youtube.com/watch?v=u5V1wVDo…

Another cargo flight from El Salvador to Haiti today. Flights bringing personnel have been hidden on flight trackers. Meanwhile we now know the US and Colombian military have helped with logistics. Further, the Dominican Republic has offered its support and is serving as logistical hub for the delivery of helicopters and other equipment. Haiti, once again a laboratory for regional security policies. Haiti deserves peace. What could an alternative approach look like? cepr.net/publications/haiti-…

This unpleasant incident prompts me to recall an earlier episode when @CaolanReports took credit for other journalists' work. This July, he published a documentary about the Irish Aughinish Alumina plant, which supplies the Russian war machine. He claims in his promotional language that his video had a huge impact: "Within days, the investigation moved from social media into local, national and international coverage. Ministers were questioned. European officials became involved. A refinery that very few people had heard of suddenly became the centre of a major argument about Ireland, Russia, sanctions and the war in Ukraine." However, all of this had happened before he published his investigation. - The Irish PM had been questioned in March — four months earlier. - Same with Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot calling for EU action. - European Parliament VP Pina Picierno submitted a formal question to the Commission in May. How is this possible? Because the original investigation on this plant, exposing its deliveries to Russia, had been published my colleagues at @OCCRP, the @IrishTimes, and @guardian on March 24. Caolan's video piggybacks on that reporting, with hardly any credit (he says he "saw a report in the Irish Times"). We're always happy when people popularize our reporting and take it forward. I haven't watched his documentary, but it's 40 minutes long and I'm sure it has a lot of valuable original reporting. Caolan is prolific and clearly good at what he does — that's why he has a huge audience. It's good he's helping tell Ukraine's story to the world. But to behave like this, all while self-righteously accusing other journalists of breaching journalistic ethics, is galling.
This is not the first time that @CaolanReports disrespects the work of Ukrainian journalists by using their content without permission. And then tries to make them feel guilty for demanding to respect their work and copyright.

Two flights from El Salvador have already landed today and two more are scheduled. There could easily be some 2,000 troops on the ground by the end of the day — though it's possible these flights are bringing additional equipment instead. Still, the expectation is at least 3,000 troops will eventually deploy. teapaw.org/JakobJohnston/status/2…
With 1,300 Salvadoran troops reportedly already on the ground, at least two more chartered flights from El Salvador are scheduled to arrive in Haiti today. The numbers are likely to continue to grow. The deployment is happening outside the GSF framework, tho how logistics are being funded remains a big question. Is the UN support office, authorized to support the GSF, now backing a bilateral deployment? Is Washington footing the bill?

Following more than 10 days of intense security operations aimed at locating four missing Salvadoran soldiers, @MSF_USA warns that "30 patients injured by gunfire or drone explosions were admitted and treated at MSF hospitals in Tabarre and Cité Soleil," including women and children. "We fear that this armed conflict will claim even more victims and displace even more people in the coming days, particularly with the arrival of additional international security forces," MSF's head of mission said.

Another chartered cargo flight arrived in Haiti last night. Three more from El Salvador are scheduled for today. Who is paying for all these flights? @Jacquiecharles: "Bukele is reportedly seeking to deploy more troops to bolster the force and to operate independently of the [GSF], answering directly to his commander on the ground in Haiti." teapaw.org/JakobJohnston/status/2…
Bukele apparently wants at least some of the Salvadoran troops deploying to Haiti to be *outside* of the GSF, with their own authorization. A multilateral force, a bilateral force, and a private force ... what could go wrong ... teapaw.org/JakobJohnston/status/2…

From afar, Lula winning and Vucic losing on the same day is hard to ignore. A crystallization of a kind of global anti-nationalist wave that's as real as the steady far-right march we've all spoken and written about for the past decade. And it's cresting a week before US midterms
