People who think Lucy Letby is guilty often point to her failed placement as some early red flag of a psychopathic killer. But looking at Nicola Lightfoot’s own testimony during the Thirlwall Inquiry, her evidence isn't really suggestive of that at all. Lightfoot explained that she was a strict mentor who had failed other students over her career, often being called "difficult" or "intimidating" by those who struggled. Here, She’s also saying that any failure was down to standard clinical or skill gaps rather than something sinister, explicitly testifying: "I perhaps wouldn't have been surprised to hear that her (Lucy Letby’s) lack of knowledge or her lack of skills may have led to a failure to recognise deterioration. But I absolutely would not have thought, knowing her as I did, that that would have been a deliberate act."  She also dismissed the early chatter from Nurse ZC and doctors as "quite malicious... gossip" rather than actual good-faith professional concerns.  It’s another example of how far too many leaps and sinister inferences have been made, forming a picture designed to retrofit a serial killer profile onto her after the fact.
