The concept of encryption is meant to protect secrets or private information. Dates back to Mesopotamia, around 1,500 BC.
Today’s classical encryption cannot effectively protect against cryptanalytically relevant quantum computation (CRQC).
Harvest-Now-Decrypt-Later translates to: encrypted data stolen today represents delayed exposure of sensitive data.
This means the quantum threat is already here!!
The encryption securing most of the world’s infrastructure was built ages ago, long before quantum computing was a real threat.
That foundation is eroding. RSA and ECC were never designed to survive what's coming.
