I’m so excited to share this short film on my experience with burnout and depression as a junior doctor. The film is part of the dissemination of a study I participated in. More on the study and a longer version of the film here: birmingham.ac.uk/research/ap…

Gutted for the @lionesses who gave their all, but congratulations to Spain on winning the World Cup. They were the better team and thoroughly deserved their victory.

Tips for clinical/educational supervisors for trainee doctors for your induction/start of placement meetings:
Aren’t you sick of the usual ‘nice to meet you, see you in 4 months’ approach? So are trainees!
Here’s some questions I’ve developed over the years that you can ask:

I'm a consultant interventionalist, but was a trainee just 18mo ago. I am an educational supervisor (to doctors) and have mentored ANPs & pharmacists to expand their skills. I am clinical lead for my department, so all too aware of the pressures on trusts. Here are my thoughts. teapaw.org/GHCardiology/status/16…

Govt claim #FullPayRestoration is ‘unaffordable’
But actually the cost of FPR, £1bn, seen as a ‘rounding error’ especially with a treasury budget of >£1000 billion.
The cost of not providing FPR? Doctors leave. Patients lose out on care. Waiting lists continue to rise.
Would a 10% pay rise be fair and reasonable? - @SophyRidgeSky
"No, it wouldn't", says the BMA's @RobLaurensonD4P, adding that a pay rise would need to be more than 10% as doctors have had a 'pay erosion of 31.7% over 15 years.'

Dear 🇬🇧,
We now have the worst waiting lists in NHS history at 7.3m people. You are waiting longer than ever for a GP appt, A&E visit, or a cancer referral. NHS docs/nurses are leaving in droves because we're treated like garbage. This is your NHS in #ToryBritain.

Hey @NHSEngland, @NHSScotland, and UK #MedTwitter
After my last thread on the NHS experiences of my UK trained colleagues (now Aussie EM Regs) I was sent quite a few DMs by doctors still in the UK who wanted to share their own experiences. This is the promised Part 2 🧵

Dear @Conservatives,
13 years ago you inherited the #1 ranked healthcare system on the planet and look what you've done. We now have the longest GP, A&E, outpatient, and cancer waiting times in NHS history. 7.3m people long. You don't deserve power. You deserve prison.

🚨 It's crazy that the NHS has told 350 doctors training in anaesthesia that the NHS has no job for them after 3 years training.
At the same time we have massive shortages of, you guessed it, anaesthetists. These self-defeating bottlenecks defy logic. Statement from @RCoANews

The UK has 3.2 doctors per 1,000 people
The 2nd lowest in Europe, and fewer than:
🇦🇹 Austria - 5.5
🇨🇿 Czech Republic - 4.1
🇪🇪 Estonia - 3.5
🇩🇪 Germany - 4.5
🇮🇹 Italy - 4.1
🇱🇹 Lithuania - 4.5
🇪🇸 Spain - 4.6
🇸🇪 Sweden - 4.3
We must improve working conditions before it’s too late

We know all too well the frustration of patients waiting too long for care, junior doctors are facing these conversations every single day.
We are not in this position because of strikes. It is due to persistent under-resourcing and under-valuing staff👇

Re Junior Doctor strikes, the 'if you don't like it, get another job / go elsewhere' crowd need to rapidly learn that doctors are doing exactly that. It's (partly) why you struggle to see a GP, or it takes months to see a specialist. We simply do not have enough of them. – at Newcastle Upon Tyne, England

Hey @SteveBarclay
I see you've had a 31.7% pay increase since 2010.
Why are you worth over £20K per year more now, compared with a decade ago, but #Juniordoctors aren't?
