BBC News reports that the UK cannot pick and choose which elements of the EU Single Market it joins.
But it leaves out how prominent Brexiteers suggested we wouldn’t need to leave it in the first place.
Daniel Hannan said, “Absolutely nobody is talking about threatening our place in the single market.”
Arron Banks endorsed the Norway option, which means participating in the Single Market outside the EU.
Nigel Farage advocated continued EEA membership initially, while negotiating a subsequent deal.
Others implied our trading relationship could be preserved.
Owen Paterson said, “Only a madman would actually leave the market,” before discussing a future trade agreement.
Brexit was sold with conflicting assurances about keeping the benefits of the EU Single Market.
The BBC report should remind viewers of that history when explaining the choices facing Britain today.

"His crimes are horrific, he's rightly been held to account, justice for the victims."
"What is important, where there is wrong doing it is exposed"
My view:
Admitting you got someone wrong matters - well done @andyburnham
But the response must go beyond acknowledging past failures. The industry needs to make it safe for people to report abuse without fearing they will lose their jobs, their reputations or their careers.
Nobody should have to choose between their livelihood and speaking out.
That means independent reporting channels, protection from retaliation, and complaints investigated regardless of how famous, profitable or well connected the accused happens to be.
If others are currently abusing their power, there must be a safe route to expose them, report evidence to police and pursue prosecutions where warranted.
The real test is whether those protections hold when allegations concern someone people still admire, employ or make money from.

After the Empire collapsed, Britain understood that it could no longer stand alone. Europe gave us the economic support to feed and power the country, and the Single Market made trade easier through shared standards and rules.
Brexit ripped away those prosthetics. Now, in a world dominated by power blocs, we’re bleeding influence and resilience. The American model is no substitute for a strong European partnership. And if Trump and Putin are helping to weaken Europe, that makes rebuilding our ties with it more urgent, not less.
So the question ALL patriots need to answer is how Britain survives if we refuse to stand with our neighbours.

This rape victim blaming is just despicable
Reality:
>1500 rapes a day in uk
80% by someone they know
200 of these rapes reported to police
Only 6 of them prosecuted
Look, if you want to avoid being convicted of rape in 1, 10 or 20 years, just don’t rape anyone

"I think people are tired of it now.. We tend to follow the US.. I hope the rejection of Trump, and watching people like James Talarico and Abdul El-Sayed and the poise they carry themselves with, the respectability that they have, will filter over to here and then we will reject bullies like Nigel Farage"
"I'm a primary school teacher and I have to talk to my children about British values"
"And if we end up with a Reform UK government, or a government similar, what are those values?"
"I can't hand on heart say these are the things British people do, when they're clearly not"
Fiona Bruce, "We don't have Reform UK on the panel, but we do have them often"
My view:
Teachers can spend all week teaching children to treat others with respect, challenge prejudice and take responsibility for their actions.
But those lessons become harder when children see adults rewarded with attention and political power for behaving in ways that would never be acceptable in a classroom.
What does a child learn when cruelty gets a laugh, intimidation wins an argument, or blaming an entire community becomes a route to popularity? They learn from what we reward as well as what we teach.
That is why decency in political leadership matters.
We should expect leaders to disagree without dehumanising, persuade without scapegoating and accept scrutiny without bullying.
If politicians want to lecture anyone about British values, they should start by demonstrating them.

Britain’s inflation crisis was built in layers.
1. First came austerity, which hollowed out public services, suppressed investment and weakened our economic resilience.
2. Then the Conservatives imposed Brexit, permanently increasing trade friction, damaging productivity and embedding higher costs throughout our food and supply chains.
3. Now Trump’s war is turbocharging those structural weaknesses through soaring oil, gas, fertiliser and transport costs.
This is not ordinary consumer demand overheating the economy. It is the accumulated cost of political decisions made in Westminster and Washington.
Yet ordinary people are being punished through higher interest rates, mortgages and rents, as though buying less food could reopen the Strait of Hormuz or remove Brexit barriers.
Britain cannot escape this cycle without confronting its foundations: end Trump’s war, reverse austerity’s damage and dismantle the economic barriers created by Brexit.

Inflation is due to the Labour government mismanagement of the economy. Oil price are pushing up transport costs, the government could have reduced vat on fuel and controlled inflation at no loss of revenue.

“I used to Know Russell he used to knock around when I was editing loaded magazine he used to come into our parties and let's just say he was a magnetic personality who who took no time at all to work a room and he was, you know, he's very popular around women as you can probably imagine at the time 2006 when he started the height of his Fame. But he's denying all his allegations and I think it's really important we remember that everybody in this he has the right of Innocence until proven guilty.”
- GB News presenter Martin Daubney, who edited Loaded magazine from August 2003 to October 2010.
Before joining Loaded, around 2000-2001, Daubney was the editor of page3.com (The Sun’s online Page 3 site).
During his time as Loaded editor, the lad’s mag increased its depiction of female nudity compared with a few years earlier. Standard industry practices for news vendors were revised in March 2006 after an agreement between the National Federation of Retail Newsagents and the Home Office, following concerns that lads’ mags were within the reach of children. As a result, Loaded was displayed on the top shelf next to copies of Penthouse and other pornographic magazines.
Circulation declined: in the first six months of 2007, Loaded recorded a 35% drop compared with the first half of 2006.
Also in 2007, Daubney organised a “Straight Pride” march in London. He stated at the time that heterosexuality was being “undermined” and had become “unfashionable.”
In the May 2008 issue, the editorial team had to print an apology to Heinz after claiming in an earlier issue that Heinz had produced a version of Alphabetti Spaghetti especially for the German market that consisted solely of tiny pasta shaped as swastikas.
In 2016 Daubney spoke at the International Conference on Men’s Issues in London (topic: “Pornography and the demonisation of young men”). The event was associated with A Voice for Men (founded by Paul Elam) and organised with involvement from figures in the men’s rights/manosphere scene.
Hope not Hate and other sources have highlighted this as linking him to that milieu; Elam and others at such events have used deliberately provocative and sometimes violent-sounding language.

“No it didn’t” isn’t an economic argument.
The claim that the UK has beaten the EU “in every metric” needs evidence and it still wouldn’t tell us how Britain would have performed without Brexit.
The OBR estimates Brexit will leave UK productivity around 4% lower in the long run. That’s the cost we should be debating, not EU debt or youth unemployment in Spain.
No it didn’t
The UK economy has consistently beat the #EU in every meteric

The nation has been left stunned after a man who got a tax payer-funded BBC chauffeur to pick up his 16-year-old girlfriend from school when he was 29 years old has turned out to be a rapist. I mean where were the signs?
The man in question is attempted comedian Russell Brand—someone who mysteriously carved out a TV and movie career despite not being remotely funny or likeable. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, Brand is the one who always looks like he’s pissing on railway lines. Yes, he’s the ex-husband of the first woman to take a joy ride in space!
Brand ended his marriage to Katy Perry when the allegations against him first emerged. He then became a Youtuber so he could convince people that the eventual court case was an establishment stitch up. This argument would’ve been more convincing if he’d found a single person to defend his character in court.
Brand conveniently discovered that he loved Jesus and started carrying a Bible everywhere he went. This was definitely not for the cameras. He was interviewed by Piers Morgan who asked him which Bible passages were most meaningful to him. Unfortunately, he couldn’t answer. At least he’ll have plenty of time to spend with his booky wook in prison.
Brand actually thought he was gonna be redemeed, saying he could “feel God’s presence” while walking into court. He told his social media followers the prayers seemed to be working. Unfortunately for him, God doesn’t like rapists any more than the jury did.
After falling silent while the prosecution cross-examined him on why he kept groping women without their consent, and forcing himself on them, he was convicted of rape and three counts of sexual assault. This came as a huge surprise to everyone who’d looked the other way for the past 25 years.
Brand will no doubt be delighted to find that many prison inmates share his disregard for consent. I’m sure he won’t object if his big strong cellmate decides he just can’t help himself.
Brand’s sex crimes were so well-known that his fellow comedians called him out on stage for years before the law caught up with him. It’s not like he kept any of this a secret. He bragged about his rapes and sexual assaults in a book that reached number 1 in the Sunday Times best sellers list and was widely praised by critics. He was declared Shagger of the Year three times by the Sun newspaper.
His management enrolled him in a sex addiction clinic where he was asked to draw up a list of all the women he’d wronged. He compared the process to Saddam Hussein being asked about individual kurds he’d killed. In a follow-up memoir, he wrote of his time in the “nicky wick”, “If this is what I’m telling you, can you imagine what’s being left out?”
Brand was so confident of his crimes that he laughed on the radio about how he indecently exposed himself to women. He even offered to send his naked assistant to one man during an interview—the man in question was Sir Jimmy Saville.
Brand caused a public outcry in 2008 when he called 78-year-old Andrew Sachs for his BBC Radio 2 show with Jonathan Woss. The incident was pre-recorded and producers decided it was fine to air. During the call, Brand said, “I shagged your granddaughter”, made a mock apology to Sachs, and then suggested he commit suicide.
Since humiliating old people counts as entertainment in the UK, both men continued to have successful TV careers and Brand even starred in a couple of terrible Hollywood movies. It’s funny how rapists fail upwards, isn’t it?
Brand is just the latest in a long line of people to follow the proud BBC tradition of sexual offences. They include Sir Jimmy Saville, Rolf Harris CBE, Stuart Hall OBE, Huw Edwards MBE, Chris Denning, and Tim Westwood. You’ll be pleased to know the BBC did their utmost to shelter these men for years until the law caught up with them. Aren’t you glad you’re forced to pay your licence fee?

"When is there sort of like a reflection from the government, put out to people, that hang on, immigration isn't actually this massive issue that it's made out to be"
"There's a lot of fear mongering that is going on."
"Is there anything the government is doing to tackle that?"
My view:
She's right. How rare is it for any government minister to stand up speak about the positives of migration, the value migrants add to society, demonstrating an eagerness for migration to fill the gaps which exist today in our society.
We have an aging population and until a government acknowledges and addresses the implication of this, especially given the drop in Brits have children, we will find ourselves in a bit of a pickle in years to come.

Thousands of people flooded my replies last week to insult me. They accused me of being part of a coordinated media conspiracy. They said the Russell Brand trial was a hit job by the establishment to silence an enlightened truth-teller.
Well, the truth is finally here. And it is devastating.
Russell Brand has just been found guilty of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He was denied bail and remanded straight into custody to spend the weekend in a prison cell before his sentencing.
For the last three years, he weaponized alternative media to build a shield around himself. He branded himself a persecuted guru, got baptized on camera, and convinced millions of followers that the deep state was coming for him because he dared to speak the truth.
He didn’t just lie to the public. He used his online audience as a human shield to avoid taking responsibility for the women whose lives he destroyed.
Look at what he was actually found guilty of. Sexually assaulting women he cornered in bars and studios. Anally raping a woman in his own home while ignoring her begging him to stop.
This wasn’t an edgy comedian who crossed a line with a joke. This was a ruthless, manipulative predator who used staggering fame to isolate women and treat them like disposable commodities.
And look at the British media executives who enabled him. The television channels and radio stations that made millions off his "cheeky" public persona knew exactly how he operated.
They watched him target young staff and guests, laughed it off as celebrity eccentricities, and kept handing him prime-time contracts. They are just as complicit as he is.
But the real heroes today are the six women who stood in that courtroom. They did not know each other. They had nothing to gain financially.
They endured years of online harassment, death threats, and public smearing from Brand’s fanatic supporters, all so they could stand in a witness box and finally force him to face the reality of what he did to them.
The spiritual guru act is over, Russell. The conspiracy theories are dead. Today, Russell Brand is exactly what he always was: a convicted rapist sitting in a prison van.
