Today's meeting is part of the re-branding campaign launched by the Government and is another step towards building long-term partnerships with the international technology sector and expanding the productive base of the economy, confirming that Cyprus has all the ingredients to become a benchmark for innovative businesses in the region.

Meeting of @PresidentCYP @Christodulides with Saeed Amidi, Founder and CEO of @PlugandPlayTC, one of the world's largest innovation platforms and startup accelerator (#startups).  During the meeting, the company's CEO announced their intention to open an office and invest in Cyprus and to this end, in the near future, a team of their partners will visit our country to explore this prospect.  The ways of cooperation in the framework of the 🇨🇾 Government's strategy to strengthen start-up entrepreneurship, attracting investments in Cypriot startups and the possibilities of their integration in international networks and innovation ecosystems were discussed extensively.

@PresidentCYP @Christodulides met with @jimkxa Jim Keller, CEO of @Tenstorrent, a veteran hardware engineer.  During the meeting, Jim Keller announced Tenstorrent’s intention to establish an office and operations in #Cyprus. This opens up opportunities to create new high quality jobs and reverse brain drain. Within this framework an exchange of views took place with a focus on promoting a strategic partnership with #Cyprus and its emergence as a technology base in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, aiming to research, develop and implement innovative #AI solutions at government and private level.

The discussion focused on the enormous potential of AI to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of processes and actions.  The use of innovative tools can make a catalytic contribution to the digital transformation of the country. At the same time, the prospects for the emergence of Cyprus as an emerging hub of AI and innovation were discussed.

The subject of the meeting was #Cyprus's efforts to accelerate the country's #digital #transformation, and in particular, to gain expertise on infrastructure, including small-scale #data #centers and #cloud technologies. Also discussed was the prospect of Amazon's substantial participation in our country's digital ecosystem and the strengthening of its #Research and #Development (R&D) activities, taking advantage of the high level of scientific expertise available in the country, as well as its innovation-friendly regulatory and tax environment.

@PresidentCYP @Christodulides had a meeting today with the Vice President of @exxonmobil , @john_ardill, in Houston, Texas, during which they discussed current and future energy developments in 🇨🇾 EEZ, as well as the company's strategic presence in the region. #ExxonMobil, in a joint venture with #QatarEnergy, holds exploration and exploitation rights in Blocks 5 and 10 of the Cypriot EEZ. In Block 10, the company has already successfully completed two drilling operations, which have confirmed the existence of #NaturalGas quantities in the “Glafkos” field, while in Block 5 drilling is already underway on the “Electra” target. These discoveries strengthen the role of the Republic of #Cyprus as a reliable energy partner in the Eastern Mediterranean and contribute to the joint efforts for the implementation of the strategic objective of energy security and diversification of energy sources of the 🇪🇺. During the meeting, the next steps in line with the company's #drilling programme and the Republic of Cyprus' energy objectives were discussed, with the common objective of developing and commercialising the deposits in the EEZ of Cyprus. Within this framework, the possibility of synergies with companies operating neighbouring fields was discussed with the aim of accelerating the commercial development of all fields. President Christodoulides expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation to date with ExxonMobil, whose presence in the Cypriot EEZ is important and reaffirmed the political will of the Government to continue and strengthen #Cyprus' energy strategy in a way that serves the national interest and contributes to regional cooperation and stability.

During the meeting, there was an exchange of views on issues related to the operation and strategic development of the American University of Beirut in Cyprus and the next steps for its further engagement in our country. President Christodoulides stressed that the strengthening of our country's academic network, in cooperation with internationally recognized universities, contributes decisively to the upgrading of Cyprus' role as a regional center of knowledge and excellence, while at the same time enhancing the prospects for meaningful partnerships that promote innovation, entrepreneurship and competitiveness.

During the meeting, current regional developments and prospects for further strengthening Cyprus-US-Israel strategic relations were discussed. At the same time, the importance and the special role played by the Republic of Cyprus as a pillar of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean was stressed. Joint actions in areas such as defence, energy security and the economy were also discussed. Through this dialogue, the commitment of all parties involved to the maintenance of peace and stability in the region was confirmed, while the potential for additional synergies in the field of investment and energy between 🇨🇾 🇺🇸🇮🇱 was highlighted. The meeting confirmed the firm will to further deepen relations with the United States, building on both Cyprus' geostrategic position and its active contribution to regional cooperation. It also reaffirmed the central role of mutual respect in the development of this multi-level cooperation, which aims at a more secure, prosperous and stable Eastern Mediterranean.
