15 countries produce 80% of global oil supply. A treaty of 15 or 20 is much easier to coordinate and enforce than a treaty of 200 countries using fossil fuels.

The major Western countries' order of preference for outcomes for Iran: 1. Libya model - Total state collapse 2. Syria model - Partial collapse, weak central government 3. Western pliant strongman 4. Current gov survives 5. Actual democracy

Now do the six million Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.
Today, two million Arabs had the right to vote in a free and fair election in the Middle East. In a region where that freedom is nonexistent, only one country guarantees it: Israel.

the correct stance WAS unpopular. the correct stance was that the civil rights movement was justified in protesting.
The Civil Rights Act had a 59% approval rating. I know it's fun to pretend that the correct stance was always unpopular so you can pretend your enemies will be the bad guys of future period pieces but the majority of the country was actually convinced on this.

Every single person who denies Zionism is racism should be asked if they agree with her post.
This girl isn’t a Ben Gvir support btw, she was at the Ben Gvir event to criticize him from the right. It was too confusing for the Guardian so they didn’t even get into that. She’s a Feiglin voter.

The US Navy appears to be >400KMs from Iran, and close enough to Pakistan's coast that missiles or drones fired at them would have to cross Pakistani airspace, a thing Iran is probably reluctant to do.
I just found a U.S. Navy destroyer assigned to the USS George Washington CSG on Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, 17/10/2026. The vessel is sailing off the coast of Pakistan, in the northern Arabian Sea, approximately 400km from Iran. As I told you about a month ago, American carrier strike groups in the CENTCOM AOR no longer venture near the Gulf of Oman, instead, they operate hundreds of kilometers away from the so called "naval blockade line." I never thought I would see this, a lefty mayor and clear left majority of council. The big danger how is Chow et al get too cautious & squanders this. Voters will hold the left responsible for Toronto's fate for the next 4 years, and they'll be right to. Govern boldly!
With most incumbents projected to keep their seats in Toronto, save for a few exceptions, here’s what Council looks like for re-elected Mayor Olivia Chow: With Wards 4, 5, 11, 13, and 14 likely electing non-incumbent, unabashed, and progressive candidates, Toronto City Council has moved leftwards compared to the previous cohort of councilors. - Green representing councilors who largely oppose Chow in contested votes - Blue representing centrists who side with the Mayor sometimes - Purple representing Mayor Chow's closest allies in council - Red representing newly elected councilors who are more progressive than the prior ones occupying that seat - And Grey for Shaun Chen (Ward 23), a former Liberal MP who defeated the incumbent Myers (a Chow ally) but can't really be classified into any boxes yet.

Interesting point on the Palestinian citizens. I'd also say these polls lack nuance around how strong the preference is and whether it's a pragmatic guess at what's possible vs a "what would you wish for if any solution was possible".
Many argue that there is no Palestinian or Israeli constituency for one state, and that it's only LARPy Westerners who favor this. However, it's quite clear that the Palestinian citizens of Israel favor neither ethnic cleansing of Jews (which OPT Palestinians tend to favor), nor perpetual apartheid (which Israeli Jews, who also favor ethnic cleansing, tend to favor); i.e. they favor one state. Why does their perspective not matter?

Can someone explain like I'm 5 why it would be strategic for Iran to light up a couple of Bagels etc. franchises or whatever
Today CBC published an article with the headline: “Why a spate of gun-for-hire shootings in Toronto were likely paid for by Iran.” I was intrigued, as there has been almost 0 evidence offered for this claim thus far. Unfortunately this article doesn’t offer any either, adding nothing new. CBC says they spent weeks on the investigation, so these are pretty pitiful results, at least in terms of finding evidence of who paid for the shootings. I’m not sure why they feel comfortable with such a declarative headline given the lack of evidence (other than journalistic standards going out the window when the subject is an Official Enemy country). Also, CBC and other journalists continue platforming police claims that they need backdoor access to messaging apps to solve these shootings, with no push back or critique about how these powers can be abused, including against journalists. cbc.ca/news/investigates/ira…

Turnout in Toronto's election was about 46%. For those of us who obsess over politics, it's sobering that more than half of eligible voters just couldn't be bothered. And 46% is higher than it's been in the last few contests toronto.citynews.ca/2026/10/…

Can’t help but notice that the #NoKings parades with no demands have achieved nothing, while the French-style strikes/riots got the government to make concessions 🤔
The French government plans to increase the number of third-level student places and make €4 billion ($4.5 billion) available for high-school renovations as it tries to end nationwide protests that have turned violent in recent weeks bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Normally I’m inured to CBC’s lies. But Jonathon Gatehouse, Albert Leung & CBC need to be investigated & prosecuted for inciting hate for publishing this work of fiction.

The idea that Iran orchestrates random nighttime shootings at (empty) Canadian Jewish sites still lacks any credible motive. What do they gain from this that is worth the risk if conclusively caught?

If you are Palestinian Israeli (Sami Abou Shahadeh) & say Oct. 7th was a "significant historical event" you are disqualified from the election b/c you called for violence. If you are Jewish Israeli (Amichai Eliyahu) & say “anyone waving a Palestinian ... flag shouldn’t continue living on the face of the earth," you are NOT disqualified, b/c you apparently did NOT call for violence. Not so complicated after all. It's called Apartheid Israel.
This is Sami Abou Shahadeh. He is the leader of the Balad party, a Palestinian political party in Israel. Sami was disqualified because of this article he published on Oct. 8, 2023. alaraby.co.uk/opinion/%D8%B7… Israeli Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara backed Abou Shahadeh's disqualification, saying it "expressed support for armed struggle." Go read the article. it does not express support for armed struggle. not even close. Meanwhile, Amichai Eliyahu was not disqualified even though he said “anyone waving a Palestinian ... flag shouldn’t continue living on the face of the earth.” (aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/isr…). He's #4 on his party's list. ynetnews.com/article/86upvbr… To repeat: If you say, like the Palestinian Sami Abou Shahadeh said, that Oct. 7th was a "significant historical event in military, political, and strategic terms," than you are disqualified because you are calling for violence. If you say, like the Jewish Amichai Eliyahu said, that “anyone waving a Palestinian ... flag shouldn’t continue living on the face of the earth," than you are not disqualified, because you are apparently not calling for violence. Different rules for different people. Not so complicated afterall, it's called apartheid.

The cost of aid to Israel is far more than direct subsidies. The war in Iran is a subsidy to Israel, and it has hiked food and fuel prices everywhere.
Some serious economic misinformation to go with the antisemitism in this ad that blames Israel for the rising price of American eggs, bananas, healthcare - it falsely links American families’ grocery bills and healthcare costs to U.S. aid to Israel. - Aid to Israel is approximately 0.05% of federal spending - Most American military assistance to Israel goes to buy goods and services from U.S. defense contractors. - U.S. assistance is overwhelmingly military, not a direct subsidy for Israeli healthcare - most American bananas come from Guatemala, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Honduras and prices are rising because of El Niño.

Say what you will about Trump, but his opening of negotiations with Russia, including releasing oil sanctions and, media reports of business deals behind closed doors, have clearly pushed the Europeans to actually start discussions. This can only be a good thing for the world.

European socialists, instead of endorsing the Joint List which openly calls for equality and two states, support the supremacist leader that banned Sami Abu Shehadeh, called to starve Gaza and refused to endorse Palestinian statehood.
Israel deserves a future built on democracy, equality and peace. Ahead of tomorrow’s elections, the Party of European Socialists (PES) stands in solidarity with The Democrats, our associated member party, and its leader, Yair Golan. In a joint letter, PES President Stefan Löfven and Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck expressed their support: “A democratic, liberal and progressive Israel, grounded in the rule of law and respect for the fundamental rights of all its citizens, is essential to the country’s future.” We share a commitment to social justice and to a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians through a two-state solution, enabling both peoples to live in peace, security and dignity. “We hope that the elections will mark a step towards renewed confidence in democratic institutions and a more just, inclusive and hopeful future for Israel and all its citizens,” they wrote.
