UPDATE: Civil society organisations in Masaka have called on leaders to help communities affected by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) seek justice over alleged rights violations and property-related grievances. The call was made during a regional accountability meeting organised by the Uganda Consortium on Corporate Accountability (UCCA) through COTFONE, bringing together project-affected persons, EACOP officials and government representatives. Kayinga Muddu Yisto, the coordinator of COTFONE, says the affected persons raised concerns over alleged unfair compensation, delays in administrative reviews, right-of-way demarcations exceeding the compensated 90 metres, and poor drainage from pipeline trenches that has affected their gardens.
