The thing is, Texas Republicans have always had to maintain an uneasy alliance between the suburbs that thrive on growth and the rurals that just want to be left alone. The school voucher debate really demonstrated this. Rural Republicans kept voting against having money taken out of their schools to fund tuition for suburban parents, until Greg Abbott spent big to primary all of them out in favor of his handpicked puppets. The bill is eventually going to come due for stuff like that.
NAVASOTA — Joie Miller moved to rural Grimes County to raise her daughter hunting, fishing and spending time with her grandparents on their 100-acre ranch. Then Elon Musk announced he was constructing the world’s largest building a little more than a mile from her in-laws’ property. The Terafab semiconductor factory, which Musk has projected will be 50 times larger than the Pentagon, will produce computer chips for artificial intelligence. As construction kicked off, trucks rumbled past their property day and night. Big chunks of ash rained down. Miller, 31, started investigating, joining the ranks of outraged rural Texans who have seen wide open spaces suddenly sold off to support the state’s rapacious growth. The more she dug, the more Miller, a born-and-raised Republican, came to blame the party that’s run the state her whole life.

I still think that Musk has no concept of how things could change on Capitol Hill - and even at the Pentagon - after the midterms.
So it was you ? Just answer the subpoena truthfully and we can figure out the truth.

Brilliant strategy when one of Republicans' better case scenarios is a 50-50 Senate where their majority depends on [checks notes] Lisa Murkowski.
Well, it would appear Trump doesn’t plan on needing @lisamurkowski’s vote for anything or anyone for the remainder of his term in office: “Lisa Murkowski is a DISGRACE to Alaska and our Country.”

Much of what's wrong with this presidency flows from the fact that Trump views himself as the leader of a faction, not the head of state. Threatening to stop doing good things for Americans in a state if it votes for a Dem reflects that fundamental constitutional failing. – at Brookmont, MD
Trump: "Lisa Murkowski is a DISGRACE to Alaska and our Country. You just don’t get any worse! I hope the Great People of Alaska understand what is happening. The Democrats are trying to steal this important Republican Seat and, if that happens, everything we’ve done for Alaska will come to an immediate hault."

This is like the epigraph for the entire Trump 2.0 presidency: ‘’I don’t give a damn. We’re making a fortune’
TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.

What could possibly be causing this? It would almost take an insane, poorly planned war or something.
according to GasBuddy data, we've seen now 76 straight days now where the national average price of gasoline has set a record for the calendar date. every day since aug 10.

For those tracking the early vote in Iowa: I'm posting the @IowaSOS updates here, statewide & for #IA01, #IA02, #IA03, #IA04, with most recent at the top: bleedingheartland.com/2026/1… (They don't archive older reports on their site so it's not easy to spot changes from day to day)

Just how much has the Vivek Ramaswamy ad broken through? His rival, Amy Acton, became today the first Dem candidate for governor since April to be the top fundraiser on ActBlue over the preceding week. (The top spot had been entirely held by Senate candidates.)

This is just fine. We were overdue for a correction in the amount of polling. We need some. We don’t need it every five minutes. Some countries even ban public releases within this time frame. The close races are close. That’s all we’re going to get at this point.
The lack of polling is actually getting concerning. In less than two weeks, the entire United States will vote on who they send to Congress, and yet I feel like I've seen less polls now than any other October in an even year.

I wonder if even his ego is starting to sense that he done fucked up.
This is more evidence for Congress, which can easily determine if Ukraine violated any terms of service. It also constitutes a tacit admission by Musk that he played a part — if not the central role — in throttling Starlink.

Let’s check the actual facts:
🚨🚨🚨🚨This means it's pretty much over for the Democrats in Arizona this election unless they engage in the most blatant obvious cheating. I've lived here half my life, was the former Maricopa County Elections attorney, and have NEVER seen Republicans equal the Democrats with ballot returns before an election, because they are more likely to vote in person on Election Day than Democrats. And I just heard Republicans are now ahead. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I am very appreciative of Jon for uplifting my data analysis project (one I do for free on nights/weekends purely for the love of the game). If you enjoy what I’m doing now, then stay tuned for the 2028 data portal to come.
Just added some notes on the composition of the electorate, via @ErikJimenezNV: Latino turnout is down despite Dems doing so well so far.

Some of the most striking early voting data this cycle is coming from Louisiana, where Democrats are seeing particularly strong turnout among young and low-propensity voters, who are disproportionately driving the shift toward Democrats.

Midday update: More Clark mail has helped push Dem statewide lead to 13,682. Dems also have lead in Clark in-person voting. In 2022, Rs won Day 8 in Clark by 2K. Doesn't look like a repeat. With rurals closed tomorrow, unlikely Rs come close to 2022 metrics this weekend.
