Disagree. Talent is by far and away the most valuable asset in CFB. Ill take elite talent and avg coaching over elite coaches and avg talent every day
Coaching & scheme are more important than team talent. Success starts with making the right hires. Kenny Dillingham & Will Stein were home run hires at OC. Mehringer didn’t work out. Good on Lanning for recognizing a change needed to be made.

Yet another "This is an ADHD thing" that is really just a human condition thing. So tiresome.
WAIT WAIT WAIT — SO APPARENTLY WHEN YOU (OR YOUR KID) ARE ABOUT TO DO A CHORE, AND SOMEONE TELLS YOU TO DO IT, YOUR BRAIN AUTOMATICALLY REFUSES JUST BECAUSE THEY ASKED?? Yes, and it actually has a clinical name:

When I was in teacher's college, we were taught *not* to teach like this, that it was too old-fashioned and teacher-centred and didn't allow for enough student inquiry. The pendulum has now swung back in most places, thank goodness, and many kids are now getting this kind of high-quality phonics instruction, but we did a whole lot of harm for decades by listening to the people we called experts back then, apparently without good reason.
As an adult, I want to attend this school so badly.

100% this. That suffering is fundamental to human life is a fundamental tenet of basically every traditional religion or proverbial wisdom tradition. Somehow modernity (w/help from sanitized lives of others via media) has persuaded us otherwise & that our suffering is unique.
So much damage is done by the idea that there is a majority of people for whom life is straightforward. The world was designed for them, they effortlessly comply with societal demands and get over their life stresses easily. They never wonder whether there is something different about them, or criticise themselves for minor failings. They sail through school and work. They have meaningful relationships with only transient conflict. Their emotions are manageable and in proportion. They are round pegs in round holes. The neurotypical Some people look like this from the outside. Hardly anyone reports being like this from the inside. Yet more and more books and training programmes promote the idea that if you’re not like this, you must be neurodivergent. Wired differently. We have pathologised the human condition.

Positives of the #NCState job 1 Raleigh-Durham is one of the best places to live in the country along with Nashville, Scottsdale & Tampa 2 The population boom has increased the local talent big time 3 Solid facilities 4 Passionate fan base 5 Strong QB history Keys 1 Increase the NIL - make this hire something the alums & boosters are excited about 2 Area recruit North Carolina!!! Also you have access to South Carolina, south Georgia, 757 and south Florida with a history of getting dudes from there 3 Hire a coaching & Personnal staff that loves relationships & communication for recruiting. I just went through 28 schools in 6 days in the Carolina’s. And only one NCState staffer Joker Phillips was mentioned by the 75+ recruits I interviewed in the next 3 cycles. This staff was fired because they led the country in low care & time off. YOU have to CARE! 4 Run a 4 man front on defense! You’re in D-Line Heaven. Where the key position is mass produced! Take advantage of the geography.

Yes, the world is considerably better in 2026 than in 1985, 1995, 2005, or even 2015. And lots of people in each of those years thought there wouldn't be a world worth living in by this point. Lots of problems, but still better. Recognizing that alone should help lots of people.
Replying to @Riemerville
Before commenting, please acknowledge the reality we’re living in 2026 is NOT 1985, 1995, 2005, or even 2015. The world has changed dramatically, and pretending otherwise doesn’t help anyone If we can agree on that, we can start having meaningful conversations

..."happy wife, happy life" isn't a glib saying to justify our allowing our wife to browbeat us into whatever she wants...rather, it describes the joy we derive from seeing our beloved wife happy...it's one of major things we live for...

This is a great example on why you shouldn't use power ratings for playoff selection because everything he says is correct, but the results on the field have to matter. I have BYU just outside the top 10 of power ratings BUT they are 1st in my resume score after their ND win.

@spshoot loves UCF +6.5 over BYU "BYU is not a Top 10 team, guys. Not yet. They had a great win. And we applaud that win. But they were still 11-point dogs... at home."

My wife’s theory is that White basketball players are at a disadvantage because all the shoe squeaks are really loud and disruptive, but to a black basketball player, they just sound like smoke alarm chirps (imperceptible). Thoughts?

Soft, urgent whisper: Do YOU have compromising photos stored in the cloud? How about your internet bookmarks, are they all ones that you’d be happy for your grandmother AND employer to know about? taps the "conferences are just scheduling arrangements between independents" sign
Ditching conference title games almost erases the meaning of conference titles, and they really do become simply groups with pooled media rights. If that's all they are, why wouldn't Miami, Ohio State, Michigan, etc., eventually go indie or form their own/smaller groups?

A magazine-fed bow. Suddenly I'm a lot more interested in archery. No background check, no registration, no waiting period, because it isn't a firearm. Democrats can't stand that sentence. California Rep. Kevin Mullin already has a federal bill to reclassify high-powered airguns as firearms so the gun rules can reach them. That's the playbook. When the law can't touch something, Democrats change what the word "gun" means. Watch the engineering here and ask yourself how long before they come for this one.

And to put Ashton Daniels' season into perspective... Jordan Travis had a MUCH better roster, an elite defense, and protected the football far better in 2023. Travis finished with 27 total TDs. Daniels already has 23 through 7 games, averaging 3.29 TDs per game to JT's 2.45. He's on pace for nearly 40.
Jordan Travis before Norvell 79 passing yards, 0 passing TDs in 2019. Under Norvell 3,214 yards, 24 passing TDs in 2022. ACC Player of the Year in 2023. So Travis attracted the talent but norvell gets zero credit for player development?

Moralisation of sex is less of a historical accident than is sometimes suggested
I always thought that the ancient Romans were tolerant about sexuality, until the rise of puritanical Christianity. Reading Kyle Harper, I learnt that this picture is not exactly false, but it is extraordinarily misleading: worksinprogress.co/issue/wer… - Sexual penetration of a free Roman man was severely punished, possibly by death. Consenting to penetration was also seriously punished. Lesbianism was not criminalised, but was regarded with contempt. - The one great subject of permissiveness was the penetration of enslaved people. Although relatively few people owned slaves, many prostitutes were enslaved and prostitution was ubiquitous, so coerced sex was widespread. - In some parts of the empire, many married women probably seem to have worn face veils in public. - There was not even theoretically a norm of male fidelity: although wives were required to be faithful to their husbands, the inverse was not even aspirationally true. - Early Christianity wrought a kind of revolution on ancient morality. All forms of sexuality apart from procreative sex within monogamous marriage were relentlessly and violently condemned, and even marital sex was allowed only rather grudgingly. In effect, the Christians extended to men the restrictions that had previously applied only to women. - To a limited extent, they also extended the protections previously enjoyed by free men to other groups of people. Although the early Christian record on slavery is mostly very poor, they did introduce the first laws against the forcible prostitution of slaves. Transgressors were to be arrested and sent to the public mines, ‘which is’, the law ran, ‘less of a punishment than that of a woman who is seized by a pimp and compelled to endure the filth of an intercourse that she did not will’. It is not clear how much behaviour actually changed in practice – the Christians were never able to get people to behave exactly as they wanted. But the change in official norms was revolutionary, and not quite the revolution I expected.

“The Simpsons” was a beloved animated sitcom that ran for ten legendary seasons and concluded in 1999. The show was celebrated for what was widely perceived as a near perfect run that wrapped before it wore out its concept and overstayed its welcome. Creator Matt Groening and showrunner James L. Brooks famously decided to bring the show to a conclusion after experiencing the negative audience reaction to the season 9 episode “The Principal and the Pauper,” in which it was revealed that the school’s principal was actually an impostor who had stolen the real Seymour Skinner’s identity. Brooks did not want to sully the show’s legacy by doing a bunch of weird episodes as the franchise slid into mediocrity and cultural irrelevance, so the writers and cast decided instead to go out on top and end things on a high note. However, because of its centrality in 90s pop culture, a long-running Internet joke is to pretend “The Simpsons” is still on the air, a premise that gets more absurd and deranged with each passing year. If this show were still producing new episodes, it would be in its 38th season now, and most of the voice cast would be in their 80s. The joke is to imagine how distorted this charming show would have become if it had been stretched out to more than 800 episodes. Comedy posters on “weird Twitter” used to try to top each other by making up terrible ideas for what modern episodes of the show might be like. For example, a viral 2012 tweet imagined an episode where Lady Gaga helps Lisa Simpson with her self esteem. In 2019, popular shitposter Megan Amram originated the premise of Bart Simpson becoming a men’s rights activist to protest a gender-swapped reboot of “Itchy and Scratchy.” But perhaps the most elaborate Internet “Simpsons” joke was a 2017 YouTube mockumentary “The Problem With Apu,” in which the comedian Hari Kondabolu ironically pretended to be offended by the charming and innocuous convenience store owner character Apu. Everyone thought this was hilarious, especially since the show had been off the air for nearly two decades when the mockumentary was released. So, Twitter ran with the joke by pretending to “cancel” Apu, and the viral gag memorably resulted in the character’s voice actor, Hank Azaria, recognizing the meme by promising never to perform the character again, which everybody thought was really funny since Azaria had been retired for years. Now, nearly a decade later, fans are pretending that the show — which has now been off the air longer than most people tweeting about it have been alive— has brought back the “cancelled” character with a new racially-appropriate voice actor. I actually don’t think this is that funny, and I kind of think the gag of pretending “The Simpsons” is still airing new episodes has overstayed its welcome, a mistake the actual show “The Simpsons” would never have made. If you haven’t seen this 1990s classic, which — and I cannot emphasize this enough — ended after 10 seasons in 1999, you can watch all the episodes on Disney+ (except the one with Michael Jackson that got pulled from streaming).

Apu has returned to The Simpsons. The character got a speaking appearance tonight for the first time in almost a decade, with Sunil Malhotra taking over the role.
